All Highlands Backblasts

March 30th, 2018 By Disaster

Three men showed up at Highlands Speed this morning to take advantage of the special holiday start time and make themselves a little bit faster. With our usual ‘Q’ @Pavarotti texting in as a late scratch and @The Nanny taking advantage of a better offer at the Whitewater Center, YHC stepped up to offer his limited skills as today’s Speed ‘Q’. Here’s how it all went down today….

On Skyline Drive we ran a seven step ladder using the big hill

  1. Sprint to the first intersection, mosey back down
  2. Sprint to the second intersection, mosey back down
  3. Sprint to the third intersection, walk back down (We were getting pretty tired at this point. That’s a pretty steep hill.)
  4. Sprint/mosey to the cul-de-sac at the top of the hill, take a minute to remember how to breathe, walk back down
  5. Sprint to the third intersection, walk back down
  6. Sprint to the second intersection, walk back down
  7. Sprint to the first intersection, walk back down

Mosey back to the elementary school to wrap things up

  1. Thanks to the men who showed up this morning. With one banker (taking advantage of one of his eighteen bank holidays) and two self-employed gentlemen (who can basically show up to work whenever the hell they want) we were able to audible to a 7AM start time today. The extra sleep was a welcome addition, as was the actual presence of sunlight. We should do this more often.
  2. @Snip showed off some pretty sweet backwards running skills in the golf course parking lot this morning. He’s not quite ready to challenge @Dodger but had no problem dusting the rest of the competition today.
  3. @Gordo on the other hand must be part mountain goat because he absolutely killed it on Skyline Drive today, winning all of the first six sets of the race ladder.
  4. Not wanting to be left out, YHC used a combination of a Gump Jump and a trick cadence to take the last heat. Fortunately this was the same point that @Pavarotti and his ‘M’ stopped by on the way to the airport to check on our progress. I’m sure both of them were quite impressed with my sweet sprinting skills.
  5. Today’s “walking back to the starting line” conversation started with a debate on whether it was appropriate to drink coffee before a beatdown or wait until afterwards. Unfortunately it descended into a detailed conversation about distance runners who found themselves facing a bowel movement mid-race and how best to handle it. Proving once again why F3 is a men’s only workout program. The nasty green lawn mower residue in the middle of the road didn’t help anything either.
  6. FYI @Snip, Britain’s Paula Radcliffe is the female marathon runner who will forever be known for pooping herself on national television.
  7. Still no sign of @Stoli.
  8. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend. Please take some time to spend with your family. And please remember the real reason why we are celebrating Good Friday and Easter, and maybe say a word of thanks to God for sending his son to be our savior.
