Cold March Burpee Mile
All Highlands BackblastsMarch 15th, 2018
12 of Highlands finest gathered in post daylight savings day gloom with the March temperatures in the high 20’s. Perfect conditions for the first running of the Burpee Mile for 2018. Shovel flag planted (yes I remembered) the disclaimer was given and two PAX new to Highlands were introduced – @Curfew and Milan (FNG).
Slow mosey to the parking lot near the track. High Knees, Butt Kicks and Stoli Skips thrown in to loosen up the legs for the main event.

THE THANG
Mosey to track for Burpee Mile –
- Bleacher lift – PAX picks up bleacher, rotates 180 degrees and puts it against the fence to facilitate entry to the track.
- The Burpee Mile – 4 laps around the track and 40 burpees. It is up to each individual how they want to break this down. Official clock on the card table at the finish line. Times are recorded as you finish on the clipboard using the lighted pen by battery powered lantern light.
- The WW2 Sit Up Mile – Pair up by order of finish. Same concept as the burpee mile with 80 WW2 sit ups by each partner. Team decision how best to break them down so partners can run together.
- Bleacher lift – PAX picks up bleacher, rotates 180 degrees and returns it to the original position.

BOM & COT
MOLESKIN:
- Fifth running of the Burpee Mile. Some PAX have figured out their strategy while others are still experimenting. When the timer started there was a mixture of guys running, doing burpees and all combinations in between.
- @Glock and newcomer @Curfew tied for the fastest raw time but with the age adjustment @Glock came in first overall. Great effort by everyone, lots of heavy breathing as they crossed the finish line.
- Results are age adjusted to account for the fact that running performance generally deteriorates after age 35. There are a number of studies out there but this one indicates that this deterioration averages 2 second/mile per year – https://fairmodel.econ.yale.edu/aging/runoth.htm
- Congrats to @Glock. Also great effort by @Sully coming in second and getting a PR. Final results –
| Name | Age | Time | Adjustment | Adjusted Time | |
| Glock | 49 | 9:27 | 28 | 8:59 | |
| Sully | 53 | 9:38 | 36 | 9:02 | PR |
| Dropcloth | 44 | 9:35 | 18 | 9:17 | |
| Curfew | 19 | 9:27 | 0 | 9:27 | |
| Hugo | 47 | 10:06 | 24 | 9:42 | |
| Gordo | 45 | 10:05 | 20 | 9:45 | |
| Nanny | 41 | 10:02 | 12 | 9:50 | |
| Dodger | 45 | 10:10 | 20 | 9:50 | PR |
| Brinkely | 55 | 11:15 | 40 | 10:35 | |
| Eggnog | 38 | 12:20 | 6 | 12:14 | |
| Blacksheep | 47 | 12:45 | 24 | 12:21 | |
| Milan (FNG) | 24 | 12:52 | 0 | 12:52 |
- PR’s are for those who have run the Burpee Mile more than once.
- These results are not official until @Disaster conducts an official audit of the numbers.
- The second partner mile is a nice cooldown with some ab work and F2. Makes the suffering from the Burpee Mile worth it. Enjoyed getting to know @Eggnog a little better.
- Great effort by everyone. Once again, I apologize for the clock going dark. Thought I had it figured out after extensive testing at my desk yesterday but evidentially I let it go for over 5 minutes.
- Good to see @Goldfinger this morning. Was running sprints at the track when I was setting up then ran by the gathering PAX just before out designated start time. #dedication.
- Announcements:
- Lots of opportunities to lead workouts upcoming. If you have never led ask one of the experienced Q’s to work with you for the first one. You’ll be glad you did.
- Come send off your brothers who are starting a CSAUP Rucking event this Friday evening from 26 Acres Brewery.

@brinkley – I hate that I missed it, especially the “bleacher lift.”
