When everything comes together

All Rolling Stone Backblasts

January 4th, 2018 By Heatstroke

Last week the MeCa rucking team had some Gulfstream led welcome party practice involving dragging rucks and kbs with 10′ of rope.  Well, since we got all the gear handy, YHC arranged for the RS rucking crew to bring that stuff back out again this am and make it a central part of our beatdown.  A sweet @ss plan was devised involving 3 person teams.  In the fairly likely event that we did not have perfect multiples of 3 (we didn’t – 8 PAX – I’m going to go ahead and blame Worm Burner’s continued fartsacking on not getting to 9) we would just pair people up into kind of “1” PAX.  Sounded perfectly reasonable in my mind beforehand…  The 8 show, disclaimer given, and we are off to my trunk for supplies – 50# ruck, big green, rope and caribiners, and also Kilowatt’s 50# ruck.

Mosey towards the middle school, stop for required Monkey Humpers at the Greenway entrance, keep moving, get to HRMS Rock that is the RS inspiration and perform 15 SSH, continue moving to front of nicely lit trailers for IST & Crab Jacks and with my mild concern that my planned beatdown might take forever, we are onto…

The Thang:

2 stations on either side of trailer.

Station 1:

Station 2:

This is a 3 person operation.  One pax does exercises at each station, 3rd pax drags ruck/kb that is tied to a rope from one station to another.  Relieving pax who then heads to other station dragging ruck/kb.  Reps are counted cumulatively as a team, or else we’d still be out there.  So, with our 8 pax we formed 2 – 3 man teams with 4 people each…awesome, what could go wrong!!  Well, ya know…  As mentioned earlier, the plan in YHC’s mind seemed solid until that plan had to be verbalized and explained in 20 degree weather. PAX were quickly freezing under the weight of the time taken to get set up and deliver instructions, and started devolving into a pack of Leeroy Jenkins.  A hot mess was born.  No order, no specific teams, it was glorious.  Chaos.  YHC was still confident that this was a legitimately solid beatdown regardless of the early results.  So no audible.  We randomly moved from station to station and put in work.  About 5-10 minutes in, things started to come together.  Teams started to form, effective communication started happening, and the original plan started to take shape…nice!  (We did need one more dragging sled for our odd configuration of PAX, but darnit, it was working!) We got roughly about 2/3 of the way through the exercises before time was called.  We grabbed the supplies and headed back to the lot.  Stopped for gorilla humpers at the greenway entrance and had time for…

COT: Mineshaft AO debuts on Saturday, let’s support that bad boy.  Red Friday tomorrow at RS Bell Buster, Whatley with the Q.

Moleskin:

Well that was something.  There come times during beatdowns when things aren’t necessarily going to plan and an audible comes in quite handy.  I was getting close to doing that today.  But due to having a bunch of props already, a plan I thought was really solid, and general stubbornness, I decided to just keep going with the original plan in the hope that something good, or at least decent, would come out of it.  In doing that, I got the reminder that sometimes an awkward, frustrating, uncomfortable situation can bring out something special.  As a group, we just kind of came together and figured it out. Sometimes you don’t have the perfect plan, but if you have a group of people working together with a common goal in mind, the group will figure out the best plan together.  Really well done, gentlemen.

I figured Big Green would be just fine being dragged on the frozen tundra. For the most part he was, except for the green part.

Speaking of the Mineshaft AO opening up, YHC decided to grab the Q for week 2.  So let’s help get that AO off the ground with some RS support!

Still the best way to start the day, regardless of temps.

  1. John “Hannibal” Smith – eat your heart out

  2. I will borrow this beatdown at some point.

My ruck got good and dirty.

  3. Absolutely awesome backblast. I can see more of this in our future to echo Kilowatt

  4. Appreciate it. A couple of thoughts. I think we could load the “sled” a little heavier and I think we could finish this workout with pretty much no warmarama or Mary.
