Rest time is over

YHC rolled into the balmy gloom (hey, not sub 30 temps = balmy) with Worm Burner in tow after a solid week long layoff due to some GoRuck festivites the following weekend. Time to knock of some rust. The original plan was not to wear a ruck, but after being asked by Whatley if it would be ruck-friendly, YHC figured why not knock out another pathfinder “ruck workout.” Even had a small Weinke in my pocket…yeah I said it (I’m sure Marie approves of the “innuendo”.) Disclaimer and we are off to the courts.
Warmarama:
- SSH X 15 IC
- Merkin X 10 IC
- Windmill X 10 IC
- Crab Cakes X 10 IC
- CP X 10 IC
The Thang(s):
- Indian Bear Crawl/plank: PAX lined up head to toe for a Indian bear crawl around both courts. PAX arriving at front would yell go for the PAX at the rear to go. Other PAX would be staitionary in plank position, glad Jimmy Buffett was here. After a 10 second back court violation and what felt like 5 minutes to get simply to the other end of both courts, an audible was called for the rear PAX to follow right in behind the PAX in front of them. Plank pretty much turned into resting on knees after a while. We made it around and my plan to do 3 more laps around the courts mixing in bear crawls and crab walks was scratched, with an eye on returning if time (which there did not end up being any.)
- Non ruckers grab a block and head to Whatley’s wall. 40s. Each set totals 40 reps. 30-10, 25-15, 20-20, 15-25, 10-30, got it? 1st exercise – Donkey Kicks, 2nd exercise – Box squats with ruck/block and press. The Box Squat with press got a little brutal and the modify as needed was in effect to put the coupon down and do with body weight if needed. Return blocks after.
- Back to courts for Lazy Dora – Dora without the running. Count off PAX by twos. All 1s would perform exercise first, while all 2s waited with difficult resting post (instead of running). We did this in a circle. All reps IC – so effectively doubling the following numbers. 50 Merkins/Plank. 100 LBCs/6″ holds. 150 Squats/Squat holds. The Merkins turned into spasm planks for YHC with the ruck on towards the tail end (more innuendo for Marie.) Called for time at 60 total squats.
Mary:
- The W X 15 IC – ruck pressed if you got it
- Low Flutters X 15 IC – ruck pressed
COT:
Prayers for Schnitzel that his recent injection promotes healing, get better brother! Operation Sweet Tooth – get in your toys, gift cards, cash, whatever, all of it helps.
Moleskin:
Great job out there gentlemen. Great to be back out, as being off a week can feel like forever.
Seems like the colder temps are keeping more than a few PAX from posting nowadays (not just RS, but the whole region.) That is too bad. An opportunity is being wasted. That opportunity is not to just strengthen your body, but to strengthen you mental toughness, your resiliency, your resolve. Just getting up to post early in the morning in mild temps takes these characteristics, but doing it in frigid temps, that’s called taking it to the next level. You will be better for it. You actually get more bang for your buck when the conditions suck. Your body will physically adapt better to poor conditions the more you expose them to it, I am convinced of that. People were quitting the GoRuck event I was at this weekend due to “tough” conditions. The conditions weren’t good, but it preyed on their minds, and that is why they withdrew. They could have, and should have, finished. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’m far from the toughest guy around, but I am absolutely improving. The winter gloom is as good a place as any to get your toughness training in. I look forward to seeing you gentlemen out there.

Toughness training in progress through February
I was smoked by the end of the bear crawls…which is my kryptonite. Then donkey kicks. I didn’t feel human until Dora.
Way to grind through it my man! Bear crawls with rucks are no joke, but we are probably going to see a bunch of them in March, so gotta do em.
