JP CLAMS and a little Barry White
All Highlands BackblastsAugust 1st, 2017
The cool gloom beckoned a PAX of 27 to kick back the clutches of the #fartsack and start the month of August off right. YHC almost expected to see @Conchito with long pants and a skull cap as temps dipped into the 60s. With shovel flag planted a mediocre disclaimer was given. While the PAX always benefits from a professional clarification from @Glock, YHC made a theological reference which left @Gump who was already bothered at the thought of a themed workout even more flustered (see theological explanation below). As the music played from a cheerleading backback (with 5 women in the house the backpack options are estrogenly limited) a mosey began and passed FNG Bryan who was pulling in to…
WARMARAMA:
- SSH x 19
- IST x 18 (lost count/Q fail)
- Mountain Climber x 15
- Cotton Picker x 13
- Merkin x 11
THE THANG:
The PAX selected a partner based on more on speed as size didn’t matter for a jump rope competition. Two lines were formed and it went a little like this…
- J – Partners faced off to race to 100 jumps (this is the timer) with losing line doing 3 penalty Burpees
- P – After Jump Rope the competitors moved to pull ups before returning to the end of the line
The majority of the PAX rotates through the following until it is their turn for the J and the P…
- C – Carolina Dry Dock
- L – Lunge
- A – Air Squat
- M – Merkin
- S – Sprint in place
YHC did not have a partner and started a solo timer to 100 jumps as a selection of soundtracks from the Rocky series played. Great battles ensued the PAX took their shot at one another amid sufficient #mumblechatter that kept the other PAX entertained. The playlist ended and a mosey began to…
MARY (with a little Barry):
YHC had the perfect song ready to provide the mood for MARY that summarized the mutual #ManCrush shared with @Gump and the PAX completed…
- LBC x 15
- Box Cutter x 15
- Pretzel Crunch x 15
- Low Dolly x 30
COT and BOM!
THE FREEWILL MOLESKIN:
- Great work today! This is one of those workouts that allows the PAX to go the extra mile on every exercise or enjoy more #mumblechatter than usual. Speaking of going the extra mile, @Bootstrap was seen getting extra miles in on Highland Creek Parkway after the workout.
- Welcome FNG Bryan! Thanks for posting with us and look forward to seeing you back in the gloom.
- The showdown between @Disaster and @Powerball did not disappoint. If for no other reason than to see @Powerball’s gameface. There were some other good head to head battles decided by just a handful of jumps. Sound off in the comments if you’d like a rematch!
- There were a couple of surprises this morning. @WildTurkey who came into the morning with a high seed from the first JP CLAMS found @PonyBoy more than game. And @IronButterfly was definitely floating like a butterfly with rope in hand. He admitted to winning a couple of double dutch competitions. Although it was most likely said in jest, a majority vote could result in a rename to @DoubleD!
- Some of the PAX displayed a thorough knowledge of the Rocky movies and able to cite not only the soundtrack’s movie, but also the scene. For clarity – James Brown sang “Living In America” in Rocky IV and Eddie Murphy starred in “Coming to America” three years later.
- Quick overly simplistic summary of the theological rabbit trail YHC started down this morning. Freewill in theology is linked to an understanding that for salvation man chooses God. Reformed or Calvinism holds the belief that God chooses man for salvation. And like @Gump said, I only work one day a week so not only do I have time to come up with themed workouts I also have time for theological banter in between my Merkin form training regiment. Holla at cha boy! YHC can be serious when needed.
- Use the comment section below for your #mumblechatter enjoyment as there were probably many other noteworthy occurrences this gloom.
Always an honor to lead the PAX!

One suggestion for a future JP CLAMS was for each line to select their fastest to have a final showdown for double the penalty. Duly noted.
Great workout @Alcatraz. I despise jump ropes and have never been able to master the technique. Felt like a fish getting caught in a net not only hitting my feet with the jump rope, but also the back of my head.
Got more insight into how @Disaster spent his youth. He could describe in detail the scene from the movie for each song; in one instance down the the color, make, model and year of car Apollo Creed was driving when the song was playing.
@Disaster is a virtual cornucopia of knowledge. Much of which is probably not at all useful for everyday living, but it’s knowledge nonetheless.
If you’d like to borrow the rope to work on technique, just let me know as I keep them in the car all the time. And that offer is open to all the PAX.
@brinkley it was actually Rocky driving the 1988 black Lamborghini Jalpa while Robert Tepper sang “There’s No Easy Way Out” and not Apollo but otherwise good try.
@disaster was that a winning trivia answer? otherwise you may have too much time on your hands. @Alcatraz I am still feeling the burn in my calf muscles from the jump rope, great beat down of some muscles I don’t use that often.
