Wheels of Fun and Pain

All All MECA Backblasts

May 16th, 2017 By backdraft_MECA

12 PAX arose to perfect temps and a refreshing dousing to brave the Wheels of Fun and Pain

W/U
Mosey to Rockpile, pick a rock, circle up
20 SlapJacks
10 WIndmills
15 Cotton Pickers
The Thang
Break up into 2 teams, one to the Wheel of Fun at far end of parking lot, one to the Wheel of Pain at the top end.
One member from each team spins the wheel and all team members do the prescribed exercise.   Some possibilities (Q doesn’t remember which were on “pain” and which were on “fun”, since they were all designed to be painful):
20 J-lo’s
50 Imaginary Jump Ropes
20 Rock Thrusters
20 Rock Curt to Skull Crushers
20 Burpees
20 Rock Sit-Ups
10 Handstand Pushups
Wheelbarrel Walk
10 Homer to Marge
..etc
While 5 team members did the exercise, the sixth team member had to drop his rock and run down to the bridge, do 20 dips, and run back, remembering where he left his rock and his team.    Tag off, and next team member runs down to the bridge, etc.
The Thang (2)
“Death by Merkins”
Mosey to Mary.   Do 10 Merkins at at minute 1, wait 30 seconds, 11 Merkins at minute 2, 12 at Minute 3….up to 20 at Minute 9 (skipped 18 and 19 reps due to time and complete muscle failure)
Mary
10 Reps, Downward Dog to Cobra Position, Arms Only
Pigeon Stretch to full overhead extension
Moleskin
What a great morning to be running in the rain with a rock on your shoulder and PAX by your side!  Perfect temperatures and a good turn-out helped.
This was the second and final go-round for the Wheel of Fun/Wheel of Pain, as they were reduced to a pile of cardboard mush by the end of the WOD.  Only change from the first time was the reduction of burpees from 30 to 20, mostly for BD’s benefit but he didn’t show up because he didn’t know it was lower.  Much fun was had by all in the meantime, however, with particular mention going to Rock Sit-Ups, Wheelbarrel Walks, and Hand-stand Pushups, and an unintentional display of man-parts resulting from that last exercise.  Shout Outs go to visiting PAX Sugar and Jimmy Buffet and especially FNG Brendan for sticking with this particular beat-down.
Q should have thought out the running portion a little more, as confusion ensued regarding where to leave one’s rock (we figured it out eventually).  Kudos to Anvil for doing his exercise at the bottom of the parking lot so as to not avoid the routine.   PAX had to get creative on spinning the wheels as they deteriorated with the downpour.
Death by Merkins as a last-minute inspiration judging by the grunting, appreciated by all, thus ending a shoulder-shredding, water-drenched, mud-infested morning.
Prayers out to TP’s friend Clark, recovering from MERSA, and to those keeping us safe and sound at home and overseas.
As always, it was a privilege to lead such a fine group of men on a Saturday morning.
Aye!
