A Burdensome Workout

All All MECA Backblasts

May 2nd, 2017 By AstroVan

Jim Gaffigan has a joke that he told after having his 5th child. People ask him what is it like having a new baby. He says, “Pretend you are drowning and then someone hands you a baby.” So, how about going to a workout and someone hands you 1 brick. Supposedly holding a brick in one hand, switching back and forth and running will keep your core activated for the entire workout. The rest of the workout was a lower body, geared toward improving running strength.

A couple of minutes before 5:30, people appeared by driving, walking and running. Lame disclaimer then I introduced the PAX to their partner for the day … 1 Red Brick, borrowed from the Tradition AO. Here is how the rest of the workout went …

Mosey up the corner of Prosperity and Katelyn for SSH, Cotton Pickers and Windmills. Mosey toward Tradition with brick above head, with some high knees and butt-kickers thrown in. Stop at the wall in front of the out of place house with a concrete yard for Peoples Chair, while holding the brick out front. Put brick down for 20 Hip Slappers. Back to Peoples Chair with brick and then 15 Donkey Kicks. At this time the Tradition crew came into view, so we decided to buzz their workout. When they saw us start to cross the street, they ran in fear to hide behind the newly installed pull-up bars. A brief though crossed my mind to go test the new bars, but there was work to be done back in Wellington. Mosey back for 6 Burpees OYO alternating the hand you held the brick.

Mosey down to Avon Farm for the Main Event (all with brick).
Ten Burpees OYO – down hill to Garden Grove for 20 Lunges – continue down Avon to bottom for 20 Jump Squats – back up hill for 20 LBC’s at Garden Grove – continue to top and plank, waiting for the 6.

Repeat with regular squats at bottom and WW2 sit-ups at Garden Grove on the way back up. Run back down to the 6 and finish as a group.

Mosey to Tennis Courts and give the brick a rest. Line up on side line for a series of sprints. The goal was to make each sprint faster than the last with a 10 second rest between each run. Two sets of this.

Grab brick and return it to pile back by the cars. Circle for Mary.
20 Pretzel Crunches IC
10 Reverse Crunches IC OYO (Q couldn’t breathe)
15 Crunchy Frogs IC (Man Down)
