Listen Up! The Bus cometh for you…

All Concord Backblasts

October 8th, 2020 By Bay City Roller

13 foolish individuals showed up faced with the unpredictability of a Homeland beatdown, and well, that’s exactly what they got (predictably).
3.8 miles and nearly 600 calories burned…  And a video to prove it all.  Keep reading.

Pax were warned to “listen up” in the PreBlast AND before warmup, but no one did.  They learned quickly.

Warmup
No typical circle-up bullsh*t today.  3 lines facing the Q – military style.  Pax were told how many SSHs, and were expected to do exactly that many.  Punishment of 5 Burpess for the whole group for any violation.

  • Round 1, 10 SSH IC.  Half the Pax had no idea to stop at 10 and I think Tombstone and Catfish were still runnin their mouths when YHQ hit 10.  Fail.  5 Burpees
  • Round 2, 8 SSH IC.  2 more Pax didn’t get the message, assuming the first 5 Burpee punishment was just an add on to the warmup, 5 more Burpees.  Confusion and complaints began to ensue.
  • Round 3, 12 SSH IC.  Finally, after a lot of yelling and cussing, the group caught on and finished as instructed.

Not a good way to start things off.

The thang

Mosey up the deck to the upper floor where the group was introduced to the BUS.   The group formed the bus by making  2 columns of Pax and proceeding to run that bus around the upper deck.  And this bus was movin.
When the Q called each Pax by name, that person happily dropped off the bus and performed assigned exercise until the bus came back around and picked them up.  Catfish later admitted he wanted OFF the bus, but YHQ didn’t let him much.
Core Killers, Jack Webbs, WWIIs, Squats were done on each cycle.
Bus traveled around at anywhere from 50% speed to 90% depending on when you got to ride.   Java, PR, and Scooter had that sucker moving at NASCAR pace at one point.

Time to catch the bus…
Each cycle, the bus dropped all PAX off at the bottom of the top floor ramp for another test of listening skills and their ability to catch the bus.
All PAX lined up at the bottom of the ramp for some full speed sprints.  These are a Hipbone specialty as he likes to call them ”get ups”.  Start on the ground, and when called, get up, and sprint to finish.
PAX were given instructions on when to start and what to do when finished.  These was plagued by failures to listen, false starts, finger pointing….and burpee punishments for all!

After a lot of trash talkin about catchin the bus and who was fastest and who jumped the gun and how much of an a-hole the Q was, it was time to test what we’d learned.

The best part
Back at ASEC, YHQ decided to TEST the bus riders.  And the following event ensued with much controversy.
One last race to catch the bus, no BS, no trickery, no finger pointing and complaining.  Just get up and see who wins. (Included in this BB is the original, unedited footage, but due to bad lighting and out of focus shot, the play by play below is required.)
As video footage proves, PR jumps the gun and is DQ’d.  And yes, there is sound on the video, so PR, you’re out of luck.

PR out the gates early, followed closely by YHQ, (and don’t even try it – I know I didn’t jump the gun because I was the gun). Fire Chicken, disputing Private Ryan’s jump at Mary, clearly didn’t  hear the gun at all even though he was right beside it.  And props to Franchise, off the ground quick!

Fire Chicken finally heard the gun, although Cat got the jump on him.  Tombstone and Mayweather look like they hit snooze a few times and are just gonna wait for the next bus.

Two strides in for YHQ, three strides for cheatin PR, old man Fire Chicken can’t get out the blocks, and Tombstone and Mayweather were probably cussin the Q and just lookin for some GWC at this point.

The finish line is not visible, but with PR’s DQ and Fire Chicken’s stumble, winner is YHQ, Homeland.
And don’t you forget it.
Prayers for my wife’s aunt and uncle going through some difficult times with health issues.
And in conclusion, no matter what’s going on in your life today, take a look back at the hour you got to spend this morning with your friends, doing some really stupid, but fun stuff that will provide Slack fodder for a while.  The ability to get out of bed, run four miles, and drink some coffee with good friends is a gift.  Never take it for granted and always be thankful.
Enjoyed it boys.
