A solid day for the pax of F3 Afton.  We had about 6-7 start out at 06:00 for a pre-run/ruck, followed by another 15 for the 0700 beatdown led by 4 Wide, which included a pair of FNGs and visitors from the LKN region.

Up next was our AO’s first community service event.  We are participating in the City of Concord’s Adopt-a-Stream program and have claimed the creek that runs through our AO, Dorton Park.  We weren’t sure what the day would bring with the remnants of Hurricane Laura moving into the area.  The light rain we had during the beatdown gave way and at 0815, 14 volunteers, which were made up of 9 Afton pax, 1 M and 4 2.0s, hit the banks of Afton Run creek with garbage bags in hand.

The group scoured the grounds of either side of the banks, picking up trash and several of us entered the creek, wading in waist deep waters at times and headed up stream collecting trash along the way.  The biggest catch of the day was the partially exposed construction barrel. The barrel was a bit stubborn, but the pax dug it out of it’s watery and silty grave.

After about 90 minutes, we headed back to our Mary location to survey the loot.  All told, the team picked up over 100 pounds of trash, mostly household items, cans, bottles, plastic bags and other items of debris including, the previously mentioned barrel, garden house, PVC pipes, tubing and more.

What a great way for the pax to give back to our AO of two years.  Our goal is to do quarterly creek cleanings, with a prize awaiting the pax of F3 Afton after our next clean-up, being awarded a sign along Poplar Tent Rd. from the City of Concord, with the F3 name for all to see, as adopters of the creek.
