A Bunch of Kitties at the Mill

All BackBlasts Backblasts

January 17th, 2020 By Grandmaster

Seven of Kannon’s Killers gathered in the windy gloom to find out what all this mad kitty business was all about.  After a week of unseasonably warm temps, the wind blew cold across the northern field and onto our AO.  YHC had recently learned a new exercise that his 10 year old daughter picked up from gymnastics class. So, with that background I thought our mighty men could handle it as well. Guess I was wrong about that. Here’s how it went down:

Mosey to the Circle of Honor for WARMORAMA:

20 SSHs IC, 15 ISTs IC, 10 BSNs IC, 5 Burpees

After the warm up, YHC put on a display of what a mad kitty is: begin in child’s pose then with an explosive push from both the hands and feet surge forward into a plank position.  Then sit back into child’s pose again. If done correctly, you should advance about half a body length.  To soften the blow on the hands, you can drop from plank down to a Merkin after the explosion. With the awesome introduction complete, it was off to Dale for the THANG (1):

Begin at one of the brick walls and mad kitty across the brick to the opposite wall and perform two dips. Bear crawl back to the original wall and do 2 step ups, each leg. Repeato increasing the reps by two at each wall.  In all honestly, the original plan was to go with this for at least half the time and get to 20 reps at each wall, but the cries from the Pax and the blood on his knee, caused the QIC to modify as needed.)  Once we reached 10 reps at each wall, an audible was called.

Mosey to the dog park for a ladder: 10 Burpees: 5 Freddie Mercs to 1 Burpee: 50 Freddie Mercs.  FireChicken and SirTopEm took off to an early lead on the ladder, however, as the Freddie Mercs started piling up, YHC started gaining on them.  Feeling quite proud, YHC pushed harder to try to close the gap. Of course, Mr. Poultry can’t let anyone beat him and so he took notice of the QIC closing in on him. First he accused me of single count Mercs and had me call the cadence aloud. Having proven that the proper count was being used the reason for my catching them was found. Apparently, one should extend their legs when Freddie Merc-ing, not keep their knees bent. At the round of 35 Freddie Mercs, YHC tried the “proper” form, and well, we completed the ladder nearly together.  With his bubble burst, YHC called for a mosey back to the AO for MARY: no time that.

COT: Prayers for safety at Gremlin. Meet at the AO by 5:15 if you want to clown car.

MOLESKIN: Lots of mubblechatter surrounding the mad kitties this morning. When it was compared to a horizontal burpee, someone said they would rather do a burpee. High praise indeed. Some even wondered if YHC had forgotten about the Gremlin coming up.  That just proves that the Mad Kitty is a worthy addition to our arsenal of exercises.  As always, I am honored to lead you guys.
