The Non-Running Workout – now featuring lots of running!
All Comanche BackblastsDecember 28th, 2019
Eleven men showed up at MCCP this morning for a disastrous end-of-the-year beatdown. The Q informed the PAX that he was coming off a week long illness that included strep throat and a lovely eye infection that resulted in a guest appearance by my 1995 era glasses. The good news was that I didn’t expect to do a lot of running today, but the bad news that my foul mood would be taken out on the PAX. One of these claims turned out to be a lie. Here’s how it all went down:
WARMARAMA
- SSH IC X 19
- HB IC X 17
- CP IC X 15
- MC IC X 13
- Merkins IC X 11
THE THANG
To no one’s surprise YHC announced that today’s beatdown would incorporate a theme. Today’s theme would be the three man grinder. Unfortunately eleven PAX are not divisible by much of anything other than one or eleven (prime number alert!) so we ended up with one three man grinder and two four man grinders. Here’s what we did with it:
- Station one, near the snack shacks. Partner one does dips on the bleachers. Partner two does air squats across the parking lot. Partner three (and four) runs. Rotate accordingly until the Q gets tired/bored. Five burpees when we finish.
- Mosey over to the small hill at the end of the parking lot (the big hill near the soccer fields was really muddy so we skipped it, there were no complaints). Quadraphilia up the hill and do ten jump squats. Run back down and do ten WW2 sit ups. Repeato four times, then plank while we wait for the six. Five burpees when we finish.
- Mosey on up to the hilly road. Partner one goes to the top and does LBC. Partner two does merkins at the bottom of the hill. Partner three (and four) runs between them. Rotate accordingly until the Q gets tired/bored. Five burpees when we finish.
- Mosey up to the top of the hill and stop at the split rail fence. Partners one and two do ten elevated merkins while partner three (and four) do monkey humpers (yay!) across the road. Rotate through one full set for everyone, then repeato using ten elevated dips the second time through. Five burpees when we finish.
- Indian run down to the rock pile. Everyone grabs a rock and circles up. Wait patiently while the CMPD animal control van drives through the circle eyeing us suspiciously. Rotate through two full sets of curls X 12, overhead press X 12, skull crusher X 12, and bent over row X 12. Change rocks each time, with the YHC expertly avoiding the big rocks. It pays to Q gentlemen!
- Put the rocks back. Take a victory lap around the small fenced area and do burpees when you get back until everyone has done at least five.
- Mosey up to the elementary school parking lot and line up at the first basketball goal for the final grinder. Partner one does Carolina Dry Docks. Partner two does reverse crunch at the third basketball goal. Partner three (and four) runs between them. Rotate accordingly until the Q gets tired/bored/realizes we are running short on time. Five burpees when we finish.
- Mosey back up the hill and stop at the top by the split rail fence. PAX does lunges until everyone catches up. Five burpees when we finish.
- Mosey back to the parking lot for Mary.

COT and BOM and Prayer
- Thanks to everyone who posted today. This was a great way to lose some of those extra pounds that we gained from all of that Christmas candy. Sorry about all of the running. Apparently the Q-drenaline won out over the post-illness doldrums today.
- Today we learned that YHC can interpret @ONJ’s weird grunting noises, much like how Han Solo can interpret Chewbacca in Star Wars. Apparently @ONJ really likes doing burpees. Who knew?
- T-Claps to our two hate-hate-hates that posted today. @Little Buddy was out in front of the PAX for most of the day (as usual) while @Hobgoblin overcame some mid-workout merlot spillage and finished strong. Well done men!
- @Brinkley learned that it pays to stay in the same group as the Q, as I use every opportunity available to make my beatdown a little bit “easier” (also known as cheating in some circles). Again, it pays to the be the Q. Don’t like it? Sign up to Q and take full advantage of the loopholes.
- Special thanks to @Murdock, who showed up at the end of Mary with a box full of fresh, hot, Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the PAX. Merry Christmas indeed.
- Apparently @Skipper is the only non-girl in America looking forward to the new Top Gun movie. Personally I’m holding out for Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow and Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman but whatever works for you man.
- The PAX enjoyed some great second F at coffeteria after the beatdown. @Ambassador made an appearance and @Little Buddy took copious notes on his tales of how to succeed in “gentlemen’s” clubs and how to pick up hot models on airplanes. And they said that you couldn’t learn anything useful at these workouts.
- Plenty of announcements today. The Gremlin will be held on January 18 at the UNC Charlotte campus. Numbers are down significantly from last year so please sign up now so we will know how much food to prepare. It will be tough but you won’t regret it.
- @Poutine’s 2020 posting challenge is now available on line. Sign up to pledge 150/200/250 posts for the upcoming year. $10 entry fee will earn you a patch if you meet your goal.
- New Years Day Cruise at Highlands shifted to 7AM.
- The F3 MECA holiday party is tentatively scheduled for February. More to follow once details fall into place.
- And the F3 holiday breakfast will be held at the Sweet Spot on Tuesday Dec 31 following the beatdown at Highlands. Expected start time is about 630AM. Feel free to join us even if you can’t make it to the beatdown.
- Enjoy the weekend everyone!
