Reunion run and stretch

All East Charlotte Backblasts

October 20th, 2019 By Othello

What a great morning for a run, temps are cool (upper 40’s) and there is a slight breeze.  What could make this even better you say? Having our good friend H&S join us!  He was cleared by the Dr. to start working out out again after what seemed like an eternity away from the Pax due to an autoimmune disorder which inflamed his joints and hurt him like a son of a bi$%@!  Clover showed, then Silas and here comes H&S in the big ‘ol white truck.  We met at the Vet for the pre-run before Broga and heading out of the park made me remember the days we used to all go for pre-runs twice a week.  At that time the “crew” used to be H&S, Clover, Chum, TS, YHC and most importantly Gremlin.  As I begin to plan for the Gremlin 2020 I have been thinking more of him lately.

Gremlin used to love the cooler weather and was always there with a few words of encouragement and his quick wit. We miss him now and think of him every time we see a heads-up penny on the ground (H&S is the King of finding pennies).  This morning we take off and we are all jogging a comfortable 10 min/mi pace.  Gremlin used to be somewhere around 12-14min/mi but he never let his slower pace stop anyone, always encouraging everyone to “run their own race”, but we would always circle back (he hated that) to pick him up.

You know the saying, “everything happens for a reason”? As we run, I look at H&S and Clover matching strides and leading the Pax.  Our newcomer, Silas is not to far behind and for just joining the Pax in April 2019 he is getting to be a pro at running 5k’s. Then, as I think of Gremlin I realize something amazing.  Gremlins hospital name was Rick.  Interesting, Silas’ Hospital name is Rick too.  Don’t ask me how but the cosmos have aligned to put another “Rick” in our lives through Silas and here we are again, a brotherhood, a team, a family, all enjoying the camaraderie of a run on a cool fall morning. I got goosebumps.

On our return we saw TS doing a little downward dog on his mat waiting for us to arrive.  We laid out our mats in a circle and began a peoples Q where we talked, laughed and cut-up like little girls.  Yes, we stretched too.  All OYO.
