Mettle May be on Mondays, but True Grit Was Today

7 Runners and 2 Ruckers decided get out of the fart-sack and better themselves this morning in great temps.
There was some confusion as to the route the Q had indicated. When YHC met Pav on the road, he indicated an out and back to Eastfield, but upon seeing an FNG and a new face, YHC suggested the Highland 5K route, which the ruckers chose.
The Nanny and YHC enjoyed a nice brisk pace and some delightful 2nd F regarding outdoor spaces, cutting the cord and issues with finding outdoor furniture. (If you get a chance, ask him about his Costco adventure, it is quite riveting.)
When we returned, we found the shovel flag on the ground and no runners in sight. We began to worry, but we were soon joined by Glock and a very out of breath Pavarotti. (Kudos to Pav for keeping pace with Glock for 4.5 miles). Shortly thereafter, Brinkley and the FNG Ovi arrive speaking fluent Spanish. (Apparently Brinkley spent time when he was younger in the same village Ovi grew up in. Small world.) Then came the true heroes, Shaft, Kleanup and Focker. The guys who didn’t cut it part way and finished the entire brutal trek from the elementary school to Eastfield and back. They truly pushed themselves, and while they may not realize it now, it will pay dividends later.
A truly great showing by everyone today.
