9 duds and 2 new dudes travelled various paths but eventually made it to the common destination around the shovel flag. The duds were all quite surprised by the numbers for a Saturday morning. The dudes didn’t know any different. All soon got what they came for, a beat down for the aged and ages.

WARMUP

• Mosey into the memorial
• SSH x 20 IC
• Merkins x 10 IC
• Elbow Plank for 30s
• Mountain Climbers x 15 IC
• Elbow Plank for 30s
• Mosey to Pork chop Hill for . . .

A HISTORY LESSON

• In game of 11s style
  • Pax line up along the bottom of the hill, backs to the hill
  • 10 Bobby Hurley’s
  • Reverse gear up hill
  • 1 down facing merkin
  • Back down hill to repeat
  • This time 9 down and 2 up
  • Keep changing the count till 1 down and 10 up
  • All Larry Birds get down for dead bug till the last man finishes
• Mosey up to the first Girl Scout Cookie (GSC are signs on the trail in the back of the park)
  • All pax run from the GSC to the bridge
  • LB run back to pick up the six, Ping Pong style till the 6 finishes
• All pax in the ditch for hill attacks
  • Carolina Dry Dock x 10 IC
  • Knees to Chest x 10 IC
  • Attack run up the hill to the tee box and back to the ditch
  • Carolina Dry Dock x 10 IC
  • Homer to Marge x 10 IC
  • Attack run up the hill to the tee box and back to the ditch
• Mosey to the pull-up station for some teamwork
  • In groups of 2 pax (YHC tripled with the 2 FNGs)
  • 10 hanging straight leg lifts to partner target (both pax in turn)
  • 10 WW2 sit-ups to partner hand slaps (both pax in turn)
  • Rinse and repeat in down ladder rep fashion (10, 8, 6, 4, 2)
• Mosey to the 7th tee box for more partner work
  • Partner carry from tee box to chains (100+ yds uphill) taking turns as needed
• Mosey to 8th tee box for more partner work
  • Partner Wheelbarrowing from tee box to chains (100+yds uphill) taking turns as needed
• Mosey to 9th and final tee box for individual effort
  • Reverse gear from box to chains
  • All pax call out warnings and hazards for all pax
• Mosey to the sand box for some playtime
  • Partner up
  • Jump to hand tag over the top of the net and hand tag under the net
  • 10x
• Mosey to the wall for Chinese fire drill
  • All pax on the wall for people’s chair
  • Each pax take turns running around the walls
  • AYG back to the shovel flag

All seriousness aside, this workout was the first time YHC lead a Mint Hill workout as none other than a member of the pax. Starting this day YHC handed all the reigns of leadership over to Othello, a natural born leader in every respect. YHC is confident that he has both the respect of his fellow man and that he respects each one in return.

While I have been blessed beyond measure these past 4 years as their “leader” now is a good time to hand it over to someone else in order to focus on other things in my life at this time. YHC cannot express simply or eloquently how this 530 am madness has impacted me nor how each man I have met in the gloom has also impacted me.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; I’m not the fastest or the fittest among you. What you do from this moment forward is your responsibility. Modify as needed. Stop as required. Don’t quit. Don’t give up. This doesn’t get any easier either, but you will get stronger. And in the words of Roonwit the centaur, “further up! Further In!” I am looking forward to this next chapter in Mint Hill.
