Highlands Spring Break… watch out for sharks!
All Highlands BackblastsApril 3rd, 2018
Eight men who actually had to show up for work this week posted to Highland Creek Elementary School this morning for yet another disastrous beatdown. The school system made great efforts to deter our workout by locking all of the parking lot gates for spring break. After carefully navigating the maze-like course, YHC set up some props to entertain the small but diligent PAX. After a quick but thorough disclaimer we were off towards the back bus lot for….

THE THANG
We haven’t seen our old friend the Sharknado in about six months so it was time to dust him back off for some more pain. I considered trying to hold off until Thursday when @Alcatraz was activated from the 30 day DL but the Tuesday slot was glaringly empty on the sign-up genius. Here’s how it works. The PAX rotates through six different exercises (non-cumulative) with a 1/8 mile lap around the Dropcloth 200 course between each set. Exercises are as follows:
- 10 burpees
- 15 lunges (single leg)
- 20 Carolina Dry Docks
- 25 air squats
- 30 merkins
- 35 LBC
The PAX was challenged to complete four full rotations of exercises in the allotted 35 minute window. The corresponding 24 laps should equate to a three mile run. The top scorer was awarded the chance to sign his name to @Disaster’s plastic shark alongside previous winners:
- Google, 26 laps, May 2016
- Frodo, 22 laps, November 2016
- Google, 24 laps, April 2017
- Barrister, 24 laps, November 2017
@Dropcloth was pretty eager to get his hands on my shark, taking off to a quick lead with @Sully right behind him. The PAX slowly broke off into three groups, with @Number One and YHC in the middle and four more guys in the back. @Sully and @Sandman had to leave early so in the end it was @Dropcloth pulling away for an easy victory with 24 laps completed. Well done sir. We had several men finish with personal bests today (previous high listed). Here are the final results:
- Dropcloth – 24 laps (previous high 21 laps)
- Sully – 21 laps (left early) (sharknado rookie)
- Number One – 21 laps (21)
- Disaster – 21 laps (18)
- Conchito – 17 laps (16)
- Gump – 17 laps (rookie)
- Murdock – 17 laps (rookie)
- Sandman – 13 laps (left early)
With time running out, we skipped Mary and headed back to the front parking lot

- Thanks to everyone who posted today. The weather was perfect but numbers were down with a lot of men traveling with their families for spring break. Or maybe they just saw my name on the sign up genius and decided that it was a good day to skip.
- Speaking of which, the sign up genius is completely empty for the month of April. Please sign up to ‘Q’ if you haven’t done so in a while. If everyone leads just one time per month we should have plenty of coverage. Remember, if a dork like me can do this then anyone can.
