PRAYERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS

CVAN Men for Change – if you still want to donate I’ll keep it open until Monday. We have about $650 right now which is great.

Pray for Catfish and Catniss and their wives as they work through their battle with cancer, and that we may be the friends they need us to be

Pray for my friend Kathy Horsely who I used to teach Special Ed with, she’s got skin cancer and having surgery to have it removed, pray that it goes well and they get it all.

Pray for Jessica Moore for the loss of her husband in such a traumatic way, and for all of those struggling with mental health.

MOLESKIN

I always volunteer at the Special Olympics every year since I used to teach Special Ed, and yesterday was that day of the year again. It really is awesome. Not only do I get to see a lot of my old students and colleagues, but the athletes are really inspirational to watch. This is not the big time, most of these kids are doing events like the 25 meter walk or the tennis ball throw. Their abilities aren’t the main thing that’s inspirational, it’s their attitudes. Some of these folks are kids, some of them are older than me. But for all of them, life is hard. Like really hard, more than we can imagine. But somebody forgot to tell them that. Somehow, their excitement and their joy is completely unbridled.

I catch myself all the time letting life get me down. Sometimes I let it make me miserable. But in perspective, I have been blessed with so much. My life is a cakewalk compared to these folks and their families that care for them. Yet I sulk around while they live every day with joy and excitement in their hearts.

Who really has it all figured out?

The Special Olympics has a guiding prayer that they all say, and use as a motto on everything. “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Maybe we should all think about that a little more in our own lives?
