What a Drag

6 of the AO’s hardest men showed up on another cold morning to do something so admirable that 1 man would spent 42 minutes looking for them so he could join even though he was late.

MOLESKIN

As requested, we stayed moving pretty much the whole time so the cold would never have a chance to set into our little inside culture bird bones. Was going to the mall to Indian run around, but that’s not as much fun when you barely have enough guys to play 4 square, so I audibled to the drag strip. The idea was to keep moving to stay warm, but hang together for some much needed conversation and venting on some of the things I’ve been quietly working hard on for the last few months. For me, that was healthier than the actual workout, and I appreciate my boys for that.

Leading is tough. It’s not about popularity but about choices and decision making. The real world isn’t binary – most situations don’t have options that are perfect, much less either all good or all bad. Most of the time in the real world the options are all right and all wrong at the same time. But leadership is having the courage and the fortitude to make the best one for those you’re responsible for. So close to MLK day, I leave you with one of his quotes that isn’t as widely known but is one of my favorites that I try to live by:

“A genuine leader is not a searcher of consensus, but a molder of consensus.”
