Moleskin:

  1. Thirteen faithful Pax gathered on a pleasant, 68 degree morning at OTC  for a Saturday morning DDay minus 2 beat down. A small rock was shown at the beginning of the workout and asked to be carried equally amongst the group for the duration.
  2. The five workout stations were named after the five beaches of Allied invasion force who landed in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 in honor of the 78th anniversary of DDay. This workout had been recycled a number of times, however today held special meaning as Q had just returned from Normandy two weeks ago after having walked on those same beaches.
  3. A new workout place, Core Athletics on Church Street, was used this morning to be a make believe Gold Beach and is probably where Q lost the key to Webb Field doing bear crawls.

Sorry about the improvisation at make believe Omaha Beach. I know how some of you really missed the Tunnel of Love on the grass! By Tombstone’s watch, we covered four miles of running and got an excellent full-body workout.

  1. I appreciated everyone carrying an authentic Omaha Beach rock this morning. It’s hard for we young Americans to realize the extent of suffering and human carnage our Allied soldiers went through nearly eighty years ago. Not only did they contend with exploding mortars, mines and bullets, but those same rocks exploded as well.
  2. D-day was always remembered at my house. Growing up with a father who was a B-17 pilot, he made sure we understood the importance of what happened on June 6, 1944. There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t think about him and the sacrifices that he and his entire generation made to allow our generation to live in freedom. So, thank your lucky stars that you live in the USA and always remember that freedom is not free!
