Howie Mandel returns to the Dawghouse
All The Dawg House BackblastsApril 8th, 2022
10 Men gathered together after YHC mentioned a light running bootcamp. Must have been enough that got scared off thinking that they didn’t have the strength to hang with us, but what they missed out on was the fan favorite rendition of Deal of No Deal. The preblast mentioned it was enjoyed last time, so hopefully it strikes fire twice and it’s enjoyed again. YHC dusted off the suitcases (paper tents, and yes they’re laminated, joys of having a wife that used to be a teacher). Got there a bit early (though Big Country was already stretching in the lot), set up the suitcases, confused a few that were curious as to why I was driving in from the other side of the lot, and got myself ready to go. 0530 hits, 2 cars still pulling in, so we’ll start the disclaimer and warmup.
Warm-up (all in cadence):
SSH until the last man joins us. x 30ish, everyone was yelling at Buck to get over there so we could stop, so they weren’t really counting well.
Windmill x10
Merkins x10
Penny Pickers x10 (Loveboat was getting fierce with the clapping to make it known he’s a clapper)
Arm Circles
Mosey around the lot to the courtyard.
Deal or No Deal
26 “Suitcases” are laid out on the outside of the courtyard. The Pax circle up in the middle of the courtyard. Going around the circle, 1 man runs to get a suitcase. On the suitcase there is an exercise on the outside, this is the Deal. If you take the deal, the Pax will do that exercise (at their pace) while the next man runs to get the next suitcase. If you don’t take the deal, on the inside is another exercise that could be easier, could be harder (see where the suspense comes in), could be hated, could be loved. But the one that brings the case gets to determine if we’re taking the deal or seeing whats inside. A few were risk takers, a few paid off, but it seems everybody had fun. It is worth noting, there is a pretty even split between upper, lower and core work, but I have no say in how the exercises fall.
Here’s a summary of how it went:
– Lots of Upper Body to start, Merkins, Derkins, CDD, Dips and more Derkins
– Dodged one of the Burpee Deals, only to have the other come back to bite us after BC took Loveboat’s advice (and then proceeded to run his lap)
– Got a nice run on legs towards the end, so that was welcomed
– Narrow Squats with a Kick Back can have you kicking your own tail or kicking the air, you decide. One looks like a dance move, the other is a bit more manly. Just be glad we didn’t get the Plie Squats, we’d all look like ballerinas dancing in the courtyard.
– MASH has the manly hands, asked me if we needed gloves and told him we were going to the courtyard, no blocks, but bear crawls were on the table, if that influenced his decision, he ditched the gloves.
– Sometimes taking the deal is better. Especially when you’re doing so many different merkins and you’re offered up Inclines, only to be bit by Declines on the inside (ouch).
– Lots of chatter, lots of lobbying for someone else to make decisions so they aren’t blamed for the pain, all the while I’m just laughing as I know we got some trickery in the cards.
– Yes, some of the exercises are different than normal, that’s a good thing, but I share the cards with the M and didn’t wipe out all of her different moves, like the Pendulum Lunges, Plie Squats, etc.
– Get your butts down on the Planks and Bear Taps. We aren’t Lowes, our planks don’t have that kind of bow when we’re supposed to be straight and flat.
Ended with some time to spare, so mosey to the tennis courts.
– 5 Pull ups (sub hangs or burpees if you can’t/don’t want to do them)
– 10 Merkins
– 15 Squats
Run
Repeato until time is called (3-4 laps)
Mary:
LBCs x15
Pretzel Crunch x10
Homer to Marge with RBCs and Low Flutters mixed in
J-Los (since I missed them during the game)
Moleskin:
– Always fun to lead you guys, I thought it was a good end to the week with some fun chatter and a bit of at your own pace day for the guys that are dealing with some nagging injuries
– Good to see Bonvoy, CPAP and Big Bird come hang out with us this morning. Though Big Bird is becoming a regular face for the beatdowns.
– Apparently the promise of light running wasn’t enough to entice our non-runners out this morning. For what it’s worth, I logged less than a mile. Next time I say light running, now you guys see, it’s light on the running.
– Sign up for the Harrisburg YMCA 5k. If you can’t run it, ruck it, but all of you non-runners, if you can complete a beatdown, you can complete a 5k.
Prayers for Buck’s family.
Have a good weekend fellas, see y’all next week!
Pax: Big Bird, Talladega, Loveboat, Big Country, Kojak, Honey Do, Bonvoy, CPAP, Buck, MASH
