Touchdown Beatdown Returns

All Highlands Backblasts

October 28th, 2021 By Disaster

When searching for ideas for today’s beatdown, I tried to think of some of the old classics that we haven’t seen in a while. And since we are in the heart of football season (Go Deacons!) it occurred to me that we haven’t seen the touchdown beatdown lately. This is a classic you-against-the-Pax challenge that @Alcatraz used to bring out once or twice a year that we always hated while we were doing it but loved it when we were done. @Alcatraz gave his blessing for me to dust it back off and even provided me with the laminated yard marker cards that provide the exercises. I showed up at 5AM to set up the field, and even had time to pick up a bag of trash in the parking lot before we got started (you’re welcome @Poutine!). The PAX were greeted in the lower parking lot at 530(ish) and were offered the option of wearing eye black to the beatdown. Those who chose not to were shamed into doing it anyway (yay peer pressure!). We were also pleased to find the classic Frodo-moblie that used to grace our beatdowns many years ago waiting in the parking lot today and we were glad to welcome original Highlands member @Frodo back into the gloom. After a standard disclaimer and a few @extra minutes for latecomers @Number One and @Circuit to be shamed into wearing eye black we were off for a short mosey to the back bus lot for warmarama.

WARMARAMA (short version)

THE THANG

The PAX were escorted into the end zone of Todd Marlin Stadium where the rules of today’s beatdown were explained. The Q had arranged thirteen water bottles at ten yard intervals down the length of the bus lot with accompanying exercises at each interval as follows:

@Alcatraz was kind enough to provide his traditional Touchdown Beatdown soundtrack today so at the sound of the screams of Drowning Pool we were off. To no one’s surprise @Frodo got off to a fast start and never looked back., To everyone’s surprise @Disaster got off to a fast start and then like the Panthers quickly faded into mediocrity. @Cat Call proved to be a strong competitor (it must have been the eye black) and was amongst the leaders all morning. But in the end it was @Frodo taking home the glory as the Halleluiah Chorus (mercifully) sounded the end of the beatdown after about 30 minutes. Here’s how the final results looked:

  1. Frodo – 5.1 laps
  2. Pony Boy – 4.7 laps
  3. Shazam – 4.7 laps
  4. Cat Call – 4.6 laps
  5. Number One – 4.35 laps (how precise!)
  6. Buffalo Bill – 4.0 laps
  7. Illuminati – 4.0 laps
  8. Circuit – 4.0 laps
  9. Disaster – 4.0 laps
  10. Alcatraz – 3.9 laps
  11. Sandman – 3.9 laps
  12. Powerball – 3.5 laps (left early, but would have gotten around 4.5 probably)

Everyone logged their scores and enjoyed a complementary bottle of water before heading back to the cars.

COT and Prayer

MOLESKIN

  1. Thanks to everyone who came out to join in the fun today. It was great to see @Frodo back in the gloom and he clearly hasn’t lost a step. All of the PAX looked strong this morning. Well done!
  2. The trash truck proved to be especially adept at navigating through the slalom-like course of water bottles and cones without crushing one. Nice driving sir!
  3. @Brinkley led a PAX of five through a second edition of the beatdown at 630AM. I’m sure his backblast will be posted any minute now.
  4. Prayers going out to @Shazam who has his next custody hearing for his foster child Josiah tomorrow afternoon. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
  5. Don’t forget the street cleanup project scheduled for Saturday November 20 at HCES. See Slack or talk to @Poutine for additional details.
  6. Have a great day everyone. Between the Vern on Tuesday and Touchdown Beatdown today I am ready for a day off. That said we still need a Q for Cardio tomorrow if you are up for it. And @poutine is bringing his Halloween BOOOOtcamp to MCCP on Saturday at 7AM. Get ready to STAB! STAB! STAB!
