Gauntlet Day 3: The Bus

All BackBlasts Backblasts

May 27th, 2021 By Spud

22 hearty souls in search of a Gauntlet Patch from Dutch Boy showed up on much less humid, Day 3 workout.

The Thang

Mosey in formation to Belk parking lot where the mood was set.

All with burpees thrown in for insubordination

The BUS

Proceed to top of deck in formation to form the Bus.  PAX traveled around deck top at varying speeds until ordered to drop off the bus and begin exercise.  Continue until the bus returns to pick them up.

Bus hit the drag strip a few times midway to test listening skills and PAX’s ability to move quickly.

Moleskin

Impressive crowd for a Thursday morning, 19 still in the running for a t-shirt.  Fantastic to see the commitment.  But as with a bus workout, disheartening to see that goofing around and not paying attention are the most common traits for this group of slack ass whiners.

Side Straddle Hops were a joke as required 3 rounds plus burpees to finally get things tight.

ISTs ended up being Hillbillies as everyone just followed the Q’s lead instead of listening to instructions.  More burpees.

Loose change was better.  No one fell for Q’s trickery.

Top of the deck saw a good effort.  The bus rolled on sometimes at impressive speed, but tended to stretch out as PAX ran out of gas.   That was the intent.

Sprints were again pretty rough, resulting in yet more burpees, as instructions are so hard to follow early in the morning.  The air rang clear with lots of lousy excuses about not being able to hear.

All this being said, again, very proud to see such a large group on a normally light Thursday AND such a large group stepping up to the Gauntlet challenge.  When Cat and I first started talking about this, I didn’t think we’d have that many takers, but I underestimated Concord F3.  We even brought some long-lost brothers out of the woodwork – Frosty, Indy, and we even saw Grover two days in a row!

Now for my confession, I will not be present at Day 4 of the Gauntlet due to a last minute personal commitment, but I will be in place at the bottom of large hill at 6:30am Saturday morning with you all in spirit to get my hills in.  And will provide proof of elevation gain and mileage.  I’d encourage any of you others who may be away from the AO for Memorial Day to do the same and plead for t-shirt forgiveness.

As I mentioned this morning, the Bus has a military style to it, although I can’t confirm that since I’ve never served myself.  But given this is Military Appreciation month and Memorial Day on Monday, please take time to remember and thank those whose sacrifices provide that which we hold most dear and take for granted on a daily basis.   Frosty, Popeye, Mayweather, Skinner’s boys, and please keep me honest if I’ve missed anyone.  Thanks to you all!

Prayers of thanks for Phidip’s completion of his month long ruck.  Hope to see him out again soon.

Pleasure as always to lead you bunch of pussies.
