35 Dads and 2.0’s arrived at the Lake for a COLD, well planned, well executed team effort and it was a BLAST. We started off with a BIG disclaimer for todays events (which ended up being very important).

Mosey to Playground

Break into two lines, mixed age

Dad’s do plank in a long line
Kids army crawl under
2.0’s run through playground, down slides, over picnic table, “Action pose jump” on trampoline and crawl back under.

Mosey to Davis Lake Dam

Piggy Back ride (if possible) with 2 stops along the way.
Stop for 5 burpees
Stop for 10 merkins

Tube and Sled rides

Top of hill: 10 derkins for Dads, Incline Merkins on guard rail for 2.0’s
Ride the sleds, kayaks or tubes down
Move off to side out of way sleds
10 squats
Run up hill, repeato

This proved to be challenging. A previous beatdown involving sleds down the hills had sent several of the PAX headlong into the forest mainly due to our weight. With that lesson learned, the plan was to move down to the far side of the dam where there was a nice long patch of grass and safety. However this ran parallel with a… Gulley? Drainage ditch?… lined with large rocks. So, to protect the little ones, YHC spent a lot of time and effort installing a fence to funnel everyone far enough away from that. We had thought it was adequately distanced and safe but FNG “BB8”, YHC’s son, had other plans.

As I was giving safety directions to the Pax and the 2.0’s BB8 got bored and decided to show them how to do it. We were using BB8’s personal Kayak as a sled and he figured YHC needed a demonstration. YHC had the two kayaks stored up against the far side, near the “stay away fence” and had intended on pulling them in if if tubes didn’t slide well enough.

In mid sentence about watching your 2.0’s, using one of my 6 helmets at the top, AND repeating parts of the F3 Disclaimer, BB8 got bored and went for it. He slid down and proved that my fence needed to extend down another few feet, sending each father into panic mode. A odd dip in the bottom of the hill combined the normal Keel of the kayak caused him to make a hard left, straight towards the rocks.

Luckily he had the sense to roll out and was unharmed (albeit very muddy). It scared me to death but he laughed it off and was quite the champ about it. We moved EVERYTHING far away from the rocks and it all began.

Each kid took their turn sliding down on the tubes and many gained some significant speed. What started off as 2 dads playing Goalie ended up in 8 or 9 slowing kids down or snapping them to a complete stop. Meola found a fun way to use the inertia and spin his 2.0’s around in a large circle, much to their enjoyment.

Overall it was a great time at the dam and no one got hurt. Stash little daughter “Freckles” was a adorable, exhausted mess when it was all over and no one seemed to mind the +-30 degrees.

Mosey back to Clubhouse, kids ride in back of truck
Truck had kayak/ladder rack with ropes to provide railings plus 3 adults and a teen in back to maintain order.
Those that did not ride took a run, including many 2.0’s that had the extra energy in them.

King Julian led a variety of Ab workouts which left most of the 2.0’s dumfounded (especially the young uns) but it topped the morning off perfectly.

YHC’s wife brought out the balloon animal kit and made balloon animals with Maria, a student who has been learning with us. King Julian, Matlock and Lucky Dog had assembled coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, bagels and fruit for all.

Overall it was an excellent (And cold) F3 dads and all those involved with the planning were proud of how it all went down. We hope to do another F3 dads event in the future during the warmer summer months! Bring on the water balloons!!!
