Another total body workout at the Vet

All BackBlasts Backblasts

February 21st, 2021 By Joe Ayers

It was another crisp (AKA: freezing) Saturday morning at the Mint Hill Vet.  15 men, including your host, Pantene, were ready to start the day off with a full body workout.  As always, I brought my “winkie” for reference.  I quickly realized that 2 sections of the park were not open to the public this morning, so I the workout had to be slightly modified from the winkie. Started at 7am with the disclaimer and a quick mosey to the monument to begin the workout.

The Warmup:  20 Windmills, 20 Side Straddle Hops, 20 LBC’s,  20 Mountain Climbers, and 15 Merkins.  So apparently I forgot to say “In Cadence,” as I do believe it was Spark Plug who slipped in a subtle hint toward the end of the warmup.  I’ll add that note to the “winkie” next time.

The Workout:  Did a mosey over to the track.  Did some “4 Corners” to get the the blood pumping.  Corner 1: 10 Bobby Hurley’s.  Corner 2: 15 Squats.  Corner 3: 20 Merkins.  Corner 4:  25 LBC’s.  Did a total of 2 rounds of this.  I had debated on doing 3 rounds (and later heard from Delta that 3 would have been ideal), however, everyone knows I’m a huge wuss so I kept it at 2 rounds.

Did a mosey over to the hill:  Started with my “1-2-3-4 Squats” (because I can’t think of another name for them): A high-step run in place to the count of 4, followed by a squat.  After 10 squats, some nice “Quadrofilia”  with a backwards walk to the top of the hill.  Originally told the team we were doing 3 trips on the hill, but once I realized I wasn’t going to die I increased it to 4. Surprise!   Next:  Time to grab a coupon (aka rock) for some nice bicep curls for a count of 15.  This was followed by a bear crawl to the top of the hill.  Rinsed and repeated these steps for a count of 5 trips on the hill.  Next:  Over-head triceps curls with the coupon, for a count of 15.  This was followed by some nice lunges to the top of the hill.  Rinsed and repeated for a total of 4 trips up the hill.  Legs were feeling really good at that point.

Did a mosey over to the handball court:  Started with the People’s Chair and 25 Air Presses. This is where things started to get a little weird: a few of the guys decided to do some odd counts in an attempt to throw me off/confuse me/test my sanity.  Yeah, fail.  Followed the Air Presses with 10 “Off the Wall” Decline Merkins,  Repeated the Peoples Chair/Air Presses/Decline Merkins for 2 more sets (Or was it 3?  My brain was failing at this point), the final set was an attempt at 15 Decline Merkins.

Did a short mosey over to the picnic tables.  Split into groups of 2: one did step-ups as the other ran around the the gazebo.  Next: LBC’s as the other ran around the gazebo.  Then incline Merkins on the bench with a run around the gazebo (is this sounding a bit repetitive now?).  Last: Russian twists with a run around the gazebo.  Ended with us all doing some Merkins to round out the hour.  Moseyed back over to the flags to finish up.

Did our count off: 15 men today.  Named the FNG: “RMH”….Rocky Mountain High (please tell me I got this correct). Announcements.  Ended the session with a nice prayer from Pantene.

Had a good time leading the group on this day, even with the occasional “let’s make fun of Pantene” moments.  Good times…good times.
