Along the river and through the woods…

All Afton Backblasts

November 21st, 2020 By Shooter

Saturday morning in the gloom brought a slightly warmer morning than most of the week for the dozen or so pax of Afton. We had a couple of our frequent visitors out of F3 Davidson join us for a pre-run and beatdown. YHC only had one component of today’s BD planned out and did everything else on the fly.  YHC had a ruck event with the Cabarrus Ruck Club at 9am and as the Q, could plan out an easier BD, but it appears that didn’t happen.  Seven AM rolled around on the clock, disclaimer was given and we were off for a mosey from the lot, around the tennis courts and into the courts for the warm-o-rama.

Warm-o-rama:

The pax counted of in twos and we separated the group. As we were in the tennis courts, we couldn’t let a good piece of wall go to waste.  One group did wall exercises while the other ran a lap around the courts and swapped out.  The wall exercises included:  Donkey Kicks, Jump-Up wall taps, People’s Chair, Mike Tyson’s (feet against wall, in a dry dock to a merkin and back up and wrapping up with some balls to the wall.

Next stop was down the western flank of the park towards I-85.  We slowly made our way across the soft, wet land and under the bridge.  Apologies to Iron City for the muddy spots with his new shoes. A quick reminder and second disclaimer to be cautious for the uneven terrain under I-85, along with rocks, netting and whatever else was out there.  We paired back up in our groups for a round of catch me if you can with one group lunging and the others running a circuit under the bridge.

Next was our run through the woods.  YHC was leading, but made a turn that led to a circular route back to our start point. The woods look a little different in the fall and confusion set in, but Chachi recognized where I went wrong and got us on the right path.  We came out of the woods for a couple of 10 counts of WWIIs and a Peter Parker merkin like routine that I couldn’t remember the name to.

Our next stop was through the village to the bridge over Coddle Creek for a 10 to 1 ladder of shoulder ups and merkins. As we got into the ladder and realized the bridge was a lot longer than the ones in the park, the 10 to 1 was modified to a 5 to 1 ladder.

Lastly back to the park and in the shelter for a round of exercises.  We did a 10 count, followed by a run down the stairs towards the new playground and back.  Exercises included:  Dips, Incline Merks, Step-ups 5 ct each leg and Decline Merks.

Time for Mary with a few 10 count reps:  Low Flutters, Freddie Murcs, Hello Dollies, The Ws, Mason Twists and wrapped up with a minute of abs, to call it a morning.

Prayers going out to

Announcements:

Always an honor to lead and really great to see good numbers, even with the cooler winter time temps settling in.
