Kettlebell Spook-tacular

All BackBlasts Backblasts

October 19th, 2020 By Blake Crenshaw

Encouraged by the challenge set forth by Yellow Cake a few weeks prior to fill the October Qs with zero repeats, YHC took a step forward to try and do his part…  Only problem, YHC hasn’t Q’ed since June and has been MIA for nearly as long…

Qualified?  Not in the slightest.

Knocking the dust off and heading into the Gloom, heavy object, mini boom-box and cardboard in hand, YHC was met by 6 STRONG Dawgs ready for work.

Here’s how it went down:

Disclaimer

Drag the Heavy Objects over to the courtyard.

Quick warmup consisting of…

SSH x 20 (ic)

Windmill x 10 (ic)

Penny Pickers x 11 (ic)

Arm circles & Michael Phelps

The Thang:

Feeling a bit like Moses, I presented the Pax with tablets (made from the finest Amazon boxes in my garage) with Kettlebell exercises focusing on Upper, Core, and Lower body.  Feeling a bit like DJ Jazzy Jeff, the tunes got cranked up (thriller, the raven, Frankenstein, werewolves of london, monster mash, etc. ).

Round 1.  Upper

Curls x 100

Overhead press x 75

Skull crushers x 50

Wood cutters x 25 (each side)

Take a lap around the courtyard

Round 2. Core

Mason twist x 100

American swings X 75

Kettlebell situps X 50

Side bends X 25 (each side)

Take a lap around the courtyard

Round 3. Lower

Dead Lift X 100

Goblet squats X 75

Frog jumps  X 50

Forward lunges X 25

Take a lap around the courtyard

At this point, some of the Pax had found their way back to Upper.  Some we’re wrapping up round 3, but all the Pax were crushing it…and cursing YHC just a little…as the rep counts may have looked easier on paper…

By the time the Heavy Objects were drug back to the cars, there was no time for Mary…but there was plenty of Mary during The Thang…so it all worked out.

COT

Lots of prayers for lots of healing, both spoken and unspoken.

A certain PAX member deserves some congratulations and some virtual high fives…but YHC will leave it to him to share the news rather than blasting it all over the internets for him.

Moleskin

Mr. Pharaoh brought some fun new DIY kettlebells to sling around.  It appeared that the PAX were really enjoying them…you could see the smiles on their faces…or perhaps those were grimaces…either way really…

Was it Mars?  Perhaps it was Jupiter?  No one went with the obvious “we’re just glad it’s not Uranus”…alas, that joke will have to be used another time…

Love boat had never heard Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon.  He thought it was Kid Rock….  He thought it was Kid Rock…………  HE THOUGHT IT WAS KID ROCK!!!!……….

Today was a good day.  Despite my dust and rust and lack of qualifications, I always feel good at the end of a trip into the Gloom.  I miss it when I’m not there and when I’m not there, I’m my own worst enemy.  Showing up can be hard to do, but it makes everything a bit better when you do.  Sure, your body may hurt, but your soul is smiling.

It was an honor to lead some very awesome dudes through a very ridiculous workout.  Despite some flubs and forgetting the order of some things, everyone smiles and encourages you right through it.  Why?  Because…#f3counts

Smell ya later!
