A Ladder-Fill Trip Around the Firehouse Loop
All BackBlasts BackblastsAugust 12th, 2020
Nine men made the hard — but correct — choice to escape from the fart sack Tuesday and venture into The Gloom for a beatdown led by YHC.
A disclaimer was given, noting that we’d be doing some moving around the AO, before we began an @Alcatraz-inspired Native American Run Warmarama, which included
- SSH
- Windmills
- Merkins
- Squats
- Imperial Storm Troopers
- Hillbilles
By this point we’d made it across the Parkway to near the Rabbit Hole, so we just moseyed down the hill toward the HCES entrance for…
The Thang
We started at the base of the hill by the entrance for the first (of many) 7s (6-1 ladders). For the first one, we bear crawled up the hill for Carolina Dry Docks before running down and doing LBCs.
Once complete, we moseyed to the base of the Haunted Hill, where Pax were instructed to give it all they had to the stop sign. After a couple of 10 counts to regroup, we continued our mosey up Street Ave. to the base of the hill behind the softball/baseball field.
Another 6-1 ladder ensued, with Pax running to the fence to do SSH before coming back for push-ups. From there, mosey to the stop sign at Ridge Road, circling back to pick-up the six.
Another 10 count, then another 6-1 ladder. This one had us run to the first No Parking sign for squats before returning to the stop sign for low flutters (2=1). From there, we fartleked the No Parking signs all the way to the fire house corner, returning to pick-up the six after.
Another Native American run followed (no exercises) all the way to the rail, twice circling back for the six.
At the rail, another nod to @alcatraz with his patented, match-based arm workout. Did the below exercises the listed amount for the first set, increasing the multiplier until we got to 4.
- Derkins x1
- Incline Merkins x2
- Dips x3
- Air Presses x4
As a group — leaving no man behind — we moseyed back up Shelley toward the golf club for…
Mary (IC)
- Pretzel Crunch (x10 each side)
- Glock-style Mason Twist (x15)
- Recover, recover

- Great work by all the Pax. We covered just over 1.75 miles according to my watch, which probably cut us a bit short honestly.
- The back half of the beatdown turned, for me, into a strong lesson about always picking up the six. @sandman was pushing himself to each station, and as we do, we picked him up each way. Come to find out, he’s just getting back from an injury along with dealing with some personal stuff. This is why we leave no man behind and ALWAYS pick up the six.
- In that vein, prayers to @sandman and his M Lisa as they battle a health problem. We are here for you brother, for whatever you may need.
- Prayers for our educators as they begin the process of starting the oddest and most challenging school year many (if not all) have ever faced.
- Prayers for all our leaders — from local to national — as they continue to try and guide us through these unprecedented times.
- EH Challenge still ongoing. Highlands is at 1.5 points, good enough for Top-5 but not near good enough. Don’t do it for the challenge, do it because you know what this group can mean for other men — whether they be an FNG or a Kotter.
