Reports of my Demise are Greatly Exaggerated
All BackBlasts BackblastsJuly 28th, 2020
It’s been 9 weeks since YHC graced The Gloom to participate in a boot camp of any kind. 64 days, to be exact, since I left the Highland Creek Golf Club parking lot after May’s Murph.
With health issues subsided and clearance given to return fully to The Gloom, YHC thought to himself: “Self, what better way to return than to Q?” I agreed.
13 men gathered with YHC in the early morning light and heavy humidity and, after a disclaimer was given that I think covered everything — including a note to hire @barrister in case of injury — off we moseyed around the parking lot before circling up for…
Warmarama (IC)
- SSH x19
- IST x17
- Mountain Climber x15
- Daisy Picker x13
- Merkin x11
We then partnered up for
The Thang
For my return, I figured I’d keep it simple. Dora 1-2-3 it is.
Partner 1 begins w/ merkins while Partner 2 runs to last island and back. Flapjack until all reps listed are complete.
- 100 Merkins
- 200 Air Squats
- 300 LBCs
After that ended (faster than YHC expected to be honest), we moseyed down Shelley Ave to the Alcatraz-rail for some upper body work. Each set, the multiplier was increased by one, from 1-5. Start with:
- 1 Derkin
- 2 Incline Merkins
- 3 Dips
- 4 Air Presses
Mosey back to the golf course lot for some 4 corners work. Start with 5 reps, run to the next island and do 10, over to the next and do 15, and finally to last island for 20. We did Carolina Dry Docks and Reverse Crunches.
Finally, YHC saw on Twitter a partner merkin exercise that I decided to try. Partner 1 held a low-merkin position for the amount of time it took Partner 2 to complete 5 merkins. x3
After all that fun stuff, we circled up for…
Mary (IC)
- The W (x15)
- The Squirm (x15)
- Pretzel Crunch (x15 each side)
- Air-borne Mind Bender
- Recover, Recover

- As I mentioned during COT, I wanted to thank everyone that reached out and checked-in while I was on the shelf the past few months. I won’t lie, it’s been a rough time but the calls, texts, and slack messages really helped boost my spirits and get me excited to get back out into The Gloom. Today, it was all worth it.
- With that said, reach out to someone you haven’t seen in awhile. It could be that they are just looking for that little bit of motivation to get back out, and your message could be just that.
- Also, keep pushing to recruit FNGs. We all know how special this group of men can be, and we’d be selfish if we didn’t try and share it with as many people as possible.
- Glad to see some old faces and some new ones this morning. Glad to have @thickburger as a member of Highlands, and welcome to FNG Jamel.
- Speaking of FNG Jamel, it was brought to my attention by @thefarm that this was Jamel’s second-ever post, meaning we missed a naming. We’ll get it next time.
- EH Challenge begins in August. All named FNGs count towards an AO’s total. Also, any Kotters count as well. In this case, a Kotter is anyone who hasn’t posted post-Covid shutdown.
- Also, the Healthy Eating Challenge kicks off Monday. Check the Slack channel (#fall2020hec) for details and to HC.
- Come out at 5:30 a.m. Thursday to help @chowder celebrate 8 years of F3!
