Guess the Warmup Exercise With Snowsuit
All Highlands BackblastsFebruary 20th, 2020
Sixteen men showed up at HCES this morning for some unexpected leadership lessons on the fly. With @Gordo forced to cancel his Q because of a last minute scheduling conflict it was a People’s Q today. YHC gave a quick and thorough disclaimer that exempted pretty much everyone from liability and then @Alcatraz led us on a quick mosey up to the bus lot for:
WARAMARAMA
YHC decided this was as good a time as any to throw @Snowsuit into the deep end to see if he could swim. Once he realized that we really did expect him to lead he did a fine job with Warmarama. Although his knowledge of the lexicon was a little bit suspect, he did a great job of acting out the exercises until someone could guess what he wanted us to do. Bonus points to @Alcatraz for guessing “the crucifixion” when what @Snowsuit really wanted was “the windmill”. We’ll save “the crucifixion” for next time I guess. Hopefully I won’t be there for that one!

THE THANG
@Alcatraz took over from there and led the PAX over to the guardrail on Shelley Avenue. We worked on our upper bodies as well as our math tables with an ascending ladder that grew particularly frightening towards the end.
- Declined Merkin IC X 1
- Inclined Merkin IC X 2
- Dips IC X 3
- Air Press IC X 4
- Repeato X 7, increasing the scale each time (2/4/6/8) (3/6/9/12) etc.
Fortunately our silent prayers were answered and we stopped the madness with 28 air presses. @Sully and @Kool Aid both challenged to lead the next round with @Sully prevailing. We ran back over to the bus lot and stopped at the oddly placed trash can for round two.
- Bear crawl to the first basketball goal, stop for 20 merkins, and run back (because we needed more upper body work after @Alcatraz just destroyed us at the guardrails!)
- Backwards run to the third basketball goal (what happened to the second goal @Pavarotti?), stop for 30 air squats, and run back
- Run to the fourth basketball goal, stop for 50 LBC, and run back
- Repeato X 2
@Kool Aid took over from there for round three. The PAX awkwardly counted off by twos. Group two grabbed a line from the parking lot and assumed the plank position. Group one organized at one end of the lot and ran a zig zag pattern that included touching each planking PAX on the shoulder (not the head!) and then backwards run. Repeato going the other direction and then trade places, with group one planking and group two running the zig zags.
@Disaster asked for another volunteer and finding none, assumed the lead for round four. The PAX partnered up, with one partner grabbing a block from the cinder block graveyard and circling up. Partner one completed an exercise with the block while partner two ran to the farthest fire hydrant and back and then switcheroo. Teams took turns calling exercises as follows:
- Pelvic thrust (an interesting choice by @Tootsie that led to several uncomfortable Jane Fonda references)
- Curls
- Overhead Press
- Block Squats
Return the blocks to their home and then mosey back to the parking lot for Mary

- Thanks to everyone who led today. A good People’s Q can be a lot of fun and leads to a wide assortment of exercises. @Snowsuit you’re all ready for Q School whenever the next class opens up.
- Announcements included openings on a third Time Laps team (see @Barrister) as well as sign ups for the Passport Challenge which starts on March 2 (see @Poutine)
- Harrisburg is raising money for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cabarrus County, a worthy cause. They have challenged all of the MECA AO’s to contribute, and Highlands is currently tied for last with $0 given. Any donations can either be given to me after workouts or can be given electronically via a link to the preblast on Slack. @Solo Cup is spearheading this effort.
- @Poutine has the Q tomorrow for Cardio and has promised to bring some his workout toys so stop by to check it out. The risk of snow could provide an additional challenge as well.
- Murdock has the Q on Saturday. Good luck spelling that word on the backblast.
