People’s Q at the Mill
All BackBlasts BackblastsFebruary 19th, 2020
On Tuesday afternoon YHC, checked in on old man Gunny to see how he was doing and try to get a Pre-blast out of him for Wednesday morning’s beatdown. “I’m driving right now, but I’ll get it posted later today” was his response. True to his word, the Pre-blast was posted and all was right in the world. So imagine my surprise when in the pre-gloom the phone lights up and chirps with the message “Are you up?” from none other than our favorite fireman, bar none, past or present. A quick “Yep” was my reply knowing what was coming. Next the phone rang and on the other end is what can only be described as the sound of gravel falling through the spinning gears of the transmission of Mack truck, or what passes as Gunny’s voice right now. It was early, so all I really recall was something along the lines of “I’m too weak to lead the Kannonites, can you do it for me, since your strength seems to know no bounds? I have a plan. It involves the plates and lines on the ramps ……” more gravel. So the MQ did what a HIM does, covered for the weaker pax and prescribed a day off work and two shots of Jim Bean cough syrup.
A group message was sent to Backdraft and ChickenStrip to see if they had escaped the fartsack yet. Neither responded. “Are you both fartsacking? Are you together?” was the next message sent. BD was the only one to respond with “Yes.” “And yes.” He also disclosed that they like to swap who is the big spoon. Try not to picture that. Too late? Sorry.
Fast forward 20 minutes, change locations to the Kannon AO and FireChicken emerges from the cab of his truck with “Gunny’s not gonna make it. I texted him because I still think I’m the MQ and have to handle everything. Our current MQ doesn’t know what’s going on.” or something like that, really just more gravel. A People’s Q was discussed and the hot poultry said that the awesome beatdown he barely survived in Concord 24 hours prior was basically a People’s Q. Admittedly he was correct on this point so the same rules would be followed this day. Today’s version went something like this:
WARMORAMA: Mosey to the first level of the parking deck and circle up for 20 SSHs IC, 15 ISTs IC, 10 BSNs IC, 5 Burpees OYO and Arm Circles fore and aft. Move to the super secret location of the plates (Q moseyed, all others slowseyed) and pic up some weight (Q grabbed 2, all others grabbed 1). Gather at the bottom of the first ramp for the plate station: 10 curls. Level 3 would be the core station and level 5 would be the cardio station. Return to level one via the stairs and repeato. The first man to each station got to pick the exercise, everyone started that exercise as they arrived and continued until the 6 arrived and completed 10 reps (straight or IC as necessary). We completed about six rounds of the deck with Java and Hurdle out front most of the time occasionally allowing others to take the lead when they couldn’t think of an exercise for the next station. About halfway through, YHC started hearing the beautiful music of heavy breathing and discussion of how tough this workout was. With about 8 mins left we completed the last round, returned the plates to their super safe and secret hiding spot and all moseyed to the AO for some planking and broga.
COT: Prayers for our sickly brother and God’s will on TheBurgh’s pending promotion or not.
MOLESKIN: Seriously, Gunny is a serious HIM and we miss him when he’s out for even one beatdown. Also, kudos to FireChicken for taking the initiative on checking on the missing Q. These two are great men and I respect them both. (Even if FC only picked up one plate this morning. Tomorrow’s the rest day brother.) Good conversation, as always, at Editions where Squid regaled us with stories of catching half eaten fish, pelicans and hopefully not much else during his time in Key West.
In HIS Service,
Grandmaster
