All BackBlasts Backblasts

February 15th, 2020 By Grandmaster

YHC posted a pre-blast advertising a beatdown with constant movement for the full hour. This must have scared all but the strongest pax off, or meanest and ugliest in one case.  A grand total of four men met at our beloved street corner for a post Valentine’s beatdown. The pax included YHC, the mighty FireChicken (who bravely decided that no V-day present was needed for the his bride), the aged Gunny (who couldn’t take two breaths without hacking up a lung) and the Troll of the Year, Backdraft, (whose Valentines Day activities were the same as every other night). I’ll let you decide if you want to let your mind wander to what that must look like.  Those too brave, or in one case too stupid, to be scared off needed no disclaimer or warnings and we set off.  The plan was pretty simple with a goal of keeping everyone together but allowing the strong to push and the wea….I mean not as strong, to still be part of the group. Simply run to a certain location.  The first to arrive gets to pick the exercise to work a particular area of the body prescribed by the QIC and starts doing that exercise until the six shows and completes 10 reps of that exercise.  The first stop was the corner of Loop and Main where we did Monkey humpers for all those driving by to enjoy. Still waiting for a motorist to honk at us. Next stop was beside the data center building where we did what will be called Hokie Pokies after FireChickens beloved alma mater. It quickly became clear that Gunny’s limited lung capacity was going to limit his performance today, so the format of the workout was slightly modified as the remaining three took turns making sure he didn’t fall out on the sidewalk.

We continued around the loop to West C, down to Village Park for a couple of stops and back out of the park toward idiot circle, now known as West Ave.  We stopped by the Editions parking lot, where YHC pointed out to the others that the parking lot had designated entry and exit points. This was soundly ignored by the respects when we returned after the beatdown. Something about old dogs and new tricks or just stuck in their ways comes to mind.  Anyway we continued north on Main stopping by Dale and then back to West, on to the parking deck.  We finished up at the top of the deck with what is not a horrible view to the east.  All in all we completed multiple upper body, lower body and core exercises and ran somewhere around 4.5 miles.  Mary back at the AO consisted of some planking and broga.

COT: Prayers for multiple people that have recently found out they or a family member have one form of cancer or another.  A discussion began about how we feel about end of life care and what we would have done to us and YHC suggested this discussion might be a bit more enjoyable with a warm cup of coffee in hand and no wind to chill sweat on our bods.

MOLESKIN: Despite the limited numbers, it is always a blessing to start the day with my F3 brothers. It was nice to see Gunny back out after about two weeks of work and sickness keeping him away. FireChicken was there, but multiple times commented that he might rather still be at home in bed and refused to maintain the constant movement philosophy on several occasions. And, of course, Backdraft made us all feel a little bit better about ourselves. Not with his words or attitude, mind you, but just by letting us see that we are not as bad off as he is. Love ya, mean it.
