QIC: Ambassador (with teams from Highlands and Skywalker)

Over the past two years, CMS  has seen an increase in its unpaid school lunch balances from $282,965 (2017-2018) to $388,937 (2018-2019). There are currently over 10,600 students on this list.

CMS’ School Nutrition Services is responsible for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and has developed programs that include providing all students with a free breakfast each school day, programs for free or reduced-price lunches for eligible students, as well as nutritional guidelines . However, students with a negative balance in their meal account get what’s known as an alternate meal (aka “reduced meal status”) which includes an entree or sandwich, fruit and milk.  (They must return any extra items on their tray to the cashier.)

F3 is working to “match fund” this debt by collecting donations relating directly to students’ balances ranging from $8.25 to the average amount per student of a rounded $36.95. (see below), and will be making a combined donation through the CMS Foundation, a 501(c)(3).  You can support this effort through any of these channels and your total will be used to “take down” the snowmen covered. Receipts for the donations will be emailed to the given address.

• Pay electronically through either PayPal (paypal.me/kenstaab60) or Venmo (www.venmo.com/Kenneth-Staab). Add your email or Slack address in the notes field.
• Drop off checks or cash at any of the Highlands, Skywalker or Saturday MECA workouts.

There are rarely many projects that have payoffs this high for the dollars we donate.  Not only can we impact the nutritional value that these students receive, but we’ll also eliminate the negative impact on their self-image that comes from the lunch line stigma.  Thank you!
