Jugs of Fun at the Mill
All BackBlasts BackblastsDecember 8th, 2019
6 middle school minded men rose up on a nice Saturday morning to get their workout on. YHC was celebrating 2 years since his F3 birthday and wanted to dish out a little pain to celebrate. I had been inspired by two Jug-a-lug workouts earlier in the year and wanted to be able to bring that type of workout on a regular basis. But who goes through that much laundry detergent? So, I began collecting milk jugs and quickly had enough stored up to provide a beat down for 10 men. Add in the oil containers and a couple of apple juice bottles and we were prepared for 12. Alas, only 6, counting the birthday boy, showed up for this special birthday party.
We mosied around the horseshoe and into Switzerland for WARMORAMA:
After Friday’s beatdown, I had told FireChicken (who didn’t show up due to partying all night with colleagues, not a jugstifiable absence) that we would be doing two of EVERYTHING to celebrate my 2 year Maniversary. So, being a man of my word, we started with:
2 SSHs IC
2 BSNs IC
2 ISTs IC
2 Hillbillies IC
2 Burpees
2 Merkins IC
2 Carolina Dry Docks IC
2 Down Dog Merks IC
2 Mountain Climbers IC
2 Brazilians IC
and, of course, 2 Arm Circles forward and back.
We then headed back to the truck parked next to the AO where everyone picked up a pair of milk jugs. The warning was given that if anyone let one of their jugs touch the ground, they would have to watch the rest of the PAX do 10 Burpees. So, we set off south to Idiot Circle and found our new favorite wooden porch and circled up to work our backs and biceps. One pax acted as a timer by starting at the shallow end of the porch and doing step ups working their way around the edge of the porch to the deep end and back while the rest of the pax performed AYG of Curls, Bent over rows, Front Shoulder Raises, Lateral Shoulder Raises, Upright Rows. A 30 second break was given for all PAX to put their jugs on the ground as YHC had lost feeling in both of his index fingers. TheBurgh had already began negotiating a group jug drop as doing 10 burpees would be better than losing a finger.
After each man had been the timer twice we mosied over to the Dale alter and each grabbed a section of the brick walls. While the timer lunge walked around Dale, the Pax hit their chest and triceps with AYG of bench presses, dumbbell flies, skull crushers, and pull overs from the waist and the above the head. Another break was called to get some blood in our fingers.
I say AYG, but there was much mubblechatter inspired by the jugs in our hands. And the mubblechatter was exactly as you would expect from a group of grown up, well respected fathers gathered together to ACCELERATE their leadership. Some fine examples:
“Did you see that guy driving by? I think he was checking out myjugs.”
“Yeah, I bet he loved the way our jugs were swinging around”
And after the lady joggers passed by, “Our jugs are much bigger than theirs”
After paying homage to Dale we mosied back toward the AO and stopped at the last bit of sidewalk that was exposed to the newly risen sun for some core work in the form of weighted LBCs, No-Touch Core Killers and KGBs. YHC made a fool of himself trying to get up off the ground without touching the jugs to the ground, others made it look simple. We got back to the truck and YHC put his jugs in the back of the truck and the PAX followed along, but no one had called for a break this time. So, we all finished off with a 10 burpee punishment.
COT: Prayers for Catfish’s work friend, CJ, who began treatments for cancer. Thanks were given for prayers for my grandmother, but she no longer needs them as she left this world behind in the night, but please be praying for the family she left behind.
Moleskin: This was an awesome way to celebrate 2 years with the men who have helped transform my fitness, fellowship and faith. Back then I couldn’t run across the parking lot. Now, I can run 3 miles anytime I want and more if I need or want to. Back then, I had few men to joke and share life’s circumstances with. Now, I have a close knit bond with several men and a nationwide network of like-minded men that I can join in the gloom and get sweaty with and joke about how awesome my jugs look and how cool it is when liquid comes out of them (multiple ways to take that one, you have to show to know). Back then, I thought I had the faith thing figured out and was ready to show everyone else what they lacked in their life. Now, I know we are all on a Faith journey of our own and while we all have our own path to take, those paths are very similar and we can support each other, gain wisdom from those who are ahead of us and pull along the ones who are following.
It is truly an honor to lead you, if only for an hour every now and then, and always a privilege to sweat, sip and serve with you guys.
In HIS Service,
Grandmaster
