Dark in the Park
All BackBlasts BackblastsOctober 23rd, 2019
11 men headed out with YHC in anticipation of a non-deck workout. They would not be disappointed. Great 45 degree temps got us moving. QIC pulled in around 0529:40 and a minute later we were off to…
Warm Up
- Mosey to Bum Wash
- SSH x 15 (4c)
- Windmills x 10
- Cotton Pickers x 10
- Soap Drop Stretch
THANG
- Mosey to McGee park by way of Corban, which brought about a stiff cold chill as we passed by the graveyard. Eerie.
- 12 of us separated perfectly into three groups of four and hit the following stations:
- Station 1: Belly of the Whale: 10 hip slappers (each leg) and 10 inverted wall walk up things that probably has some name I don’t know.
- Station 2: Playground: 10 pullups and 10 squats
- Station 3: Shelter: 10 dips and 10 decline merks
- Repeato
- Time called at 6:02 and mosey back to the AO by way of the darkness of greenway/Mugga Flugga.
MARY
- No time, I’m sure Private Ryan will have a deluxe stretching routine to make up for this tomorrow.
COT
- Prayers for the Hathcock Family, TP/Katherine, PR’s Co-worker who has endured a second miscarriage.

That was more running than some may have anticipated from a typical beatdown led by YHC, but I wanted to get back to the park. I was at said park with 2.0 and M when she suggested I should lead a workout at the park, and I realized it had been a while since we’d been anywhere beyond the comforts of Muckle Flugga, so it was time. The PAX were very morose, downtrodden and sad as shit when we got back to the AO, and I’d like to think that’s because the workout beat the happy out of them all. Nobody knew what my inverted wall walk up things were, except I knew what I was going for, so I blame the PAX for not reading my mind.
After a preblast advertising a Nu Skool/Old School beatdown, I was informed that I implied an AO beatdown by our resident Master Q. That plus the gloves warning was enough to pull BCR from the throne upon which he rules the roost. Little did he know that Old School for me involves some park, greenway, and some distance running, as that’s how I associate the beatdowniest part of my early beatdowns.
This was a bit of a test, and reminds me of my first few months of posting, back when I tried my damndest but was on the verge of death any time a 3+ mile death trudge beatdown came searching me out. These sorts of beatdowns used to be my nemesis, and still are, but one thing life teaches you is that you need to tackle your nemeses head on. Everybody has something they fear, something they’re not good at, something that causes you pain/strife and the easiest thing is to avoid it. Tackling something that you don’t want to do, the difficult, the undesirable, and sometimes the unavoidable, is something that I’ve struggled with doing. Too often people get trapped in a comfort zone, and F3 jumps you out of that, be it the early rising, the tough beatdowns, all weather conditions, or having to deal with Backdraft, it all ties in. F3 has become critical in giving folks the feeling that not only can you do what isn’t comfortable, but you can crush it.
We nailed the Lord’s Prayer today, much improvement on the last time I led it at a beatdown. I don’t say it enough outside of church, so it’s good to speak it aloud. Thanks to all my F3 brothers for embracing life’s challenges with me on a daily basis.
AYE!

“What I came to realize is that fear, that’s the worst of it. That’s the real enemy. So, get up, get out in the real world and you kick that bastard as hard you can right in the teeth.” – Walter White
