An order of hills for 2
All Afton BackblastsOctober 14th, 2019
Hop Hunter asked for someone to take his queue for this morning and since I’ve always wanted to be his huckleberry, I did not hesitate and answered his pleas. (Secretly, I hoped the young ladies from last week would show up again so I could lead through the Afton villas as 4-wide so graciously did the previous week.)
I wanted to do my best at imitating a Hop Hunter queue, so I thought what better way than to call a hill loop run. I thought about coming in with a minute to spare on 2 wheels but thought twice and showed up at least 5 minutes early. Much to my surprise, I pulled into a completely empty parking lot, aside from Lewis’ vehicle, and thought OK, “maybe I’ll just go back to bed”. I sat there for a minute or two and then saw Patagonia strolling up and had mixed emotions, the bed was sounding better and better as I had waited.
I got out of my car and greeted Patagonia with the usual pleasantries and told him I was thinking of running hills. Patagonia broke into a big smile and announced he was really, really, really, hoping we would run some hills today. (Ok, maybe not 3 “really”s).
Off we went, running towards the gazebo and up mount Afton, around the church, back up towards the day care, down mount Afton and back down to the loop start. We ended up with over 5.5 miles of hill work, lots of good conversation and a beautiful, cool morning to start our week off right.
