Hit The Bricks
All Boondocks BackblastsAugust 1st, 2019
Five pax from MECA Boondocks AO were told to “hit the bricks” this morning at The Gunnery. Bricks were removed from storage, flag was planted, disclaimer was given by YHC and we got started at 5:30 AM. We did not really notice one car that was parked off towards the side of the lot until someone got out, perhaps awakened by our thundering herd and then quickly departed (we believe they used the bushes as their outdoor port-a-jon before leaving 🙂 and we continued without any further excitement or distractions.
Happy 1st day of August! Let’s get out of here and start working this morning!
Warm Up
Start with some parking stripe shuffle and then over to the school entrance for:
SSH (x20, IC)
Low Slow Squat (x15, IC)
Windmill (x10, IC)
Plank Jacks (x15, IC)
The Thang
4 corners – with bricks – 4 rounds – start in the middle of main parking lot.
Corner 1: Squat Thrusters, 25 per round, total qty = 100
Corner 2: Bicep Curls , 25 per round, total qty = 100
Corner 3: Tricep Extensions, 25 per round, total qty = 100
Corner 4: Mason Twists, 25 per round, total qty = 100
Return to center – 5 burpees with bricks after completing each round (20 total)
Various merkins as a finisher – 20 curb merkins (10 per side), 10 decline, 10 incline
We finished at approx. 6AM and then continued to mosey down the parking lot with the bricks – stopping at each island for 5, 10, 15 merkins and backwards run back to starting point while stopping at each islan for 5, 10, 15 WWII sit-ups. Repeat but this time with handclap merkins back down and then modify to lunge walk with curls / overhead presses back until time is called.

• Great push by everyone this morning – it’s never an easy workout when carrying the bricks but everyone kept moving and driving towards the finish!
• Lots of mumble chatter this morning including a review of Stranger Things, discussion of golfing while working, and request for earlier start times for pro sport events to avoid impact to early morning F3 beat downs.
• Continued t-claps to Hard Plastic who has not missed a Boondocks workout since he started with F3 and also visits Mint Hill – The Vet on Saturdays!

Today – we followed the contrived or implied definition included below:
Hit the Bricks can be thought of as a synonym for ‘hit the road’ or ‘get out of here’. The ‘bricks’ in question originally referred to paving stones in the road. To hit them meant to start walking on them – preferably away from the person who told you to do so.
It could be construed to mean “go work hard,” but it would have to be highly contrived:
I can imagine a boss telling his underling the details of a job. Giving him a bunch of warnings about the quality expected, etc. And, then following it up with “Now, go hit the bricks!”.
The meaning would still be: get out of here and start working. But, the get working hard would probably be implied.
