Monday Jumpstart!
All The Valley BackblastsJuly 29th, 2019
What better way to bond with your brothers than to ask them to meet 15 min early (5:15am) to run 24 laps around a track before the sun rises? Well, six men including YHC thought it was a good idea…although only five of them posted. YHC arrived a little early to do a warm-up walking lap before dynamic stretches. @landlord & @no-h arrived just in time to be the chorus to Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” playing from my phone as YHC had the lead vocals covered. They did not. @Heatstroke, our fearless Nant’an arrived next with his trusty Timex and fanny pack that I hoped had snacks for us should we get hungry. We’ll never know… Instructions were given and we were off. They were the following:
2 Mile Warm Up
4 X 10-15 second strides (quick sprints, light jog between)
8X1/8 Mile 200s (slightly faster than recent 5k pace)
2 minute light jog between intervals
Cool Down to 6 Miles
While @landlord and I were discussing his recent vacation to Canada, I casually wondered out loud about how many men would show at 5:30. Then at 5:25, a familiar Orkin car pulls up. @2Step with @Half step in tow, arrived and claimed his watch does not enable him to program workouts. This discovery + the “I’m waterproof…just kidding!” nature of your watch = time for an upgrade!
In what is now traditional practice for The Valley men, one man #LIFO proclaimed with half a lap to go that his bowels had finally caught up to him. So much so that he shuffled back to his car and left before COT. What are you guys eating?? The rest of the group finished, COT, BOM, out!
Moleskin:
Good work guys. I know the track is boring but running around it eliminates the noise of early morning intersections, elevation, etc so you can work out in a vacuum. Also good for mental toughness. More to come in the future!
It was a pleasure to lead. Make it a good one today!
