Introduction of “The Rooneys”

3 men came out into the glorious late May morning to get faster. With YHC celebrating his hospital birthday, I conjured up something new and different for the PAX. Disclaimed was given and off we went.
The Thang
Mosey to the bus parking lot. Butt kickers, high knees, Stoli skips…then up and down the parking space lines…side to sides and quadraphelia.
Introduction of “The Rooneys”. As we mosey’d to the track, I was explaining what we would be doing when we go there. Pavoratti said it reminded him of that scene from the movie Ferris Bueller where Ferris is running down the hallway in school, but stops to walk past each window, then runs to the next window, then walks, then runs…you get the idea. The school principal’s name is Edward Rooney…and after our conversation devolved…we ended up naming this routine “The Rooneys”.
We took a lap around the track to collect any cones/yard markers/football pads…anything that could be used to mark every 15-20 meters in the 100 meter. Here’s what “The Rooney” looks likes, also known in the track and field world as “Floating Sprints” or “Ins and Outs”
- Accelerate the first 20 meters
- Sprint 20 meters
- Float 20 meters
- Sprint 20 meters
- Float 20 meters
- Sprint 20 meters
- Decelerate into the curve of the track
Repeato for 30 minutes
As we mosey’d back to the lot, we discussed the differences between the wosey, mosey, and the flosey…in order of speed.
