Shoots and Ladders at the Stone

All Rolling Stone Backblasts

March 26th, 2019 By Steel Cannon

10 ballers posted at the Stone this morning for a game of Shoots and Ladders.  Mild morning around 50 degrees.  Still not warm enough for Life Alert to break out the shorts.  I thought he was #buffalotough?

Standard disclaimer was being announced as Jimmy Buffett was rolling in.  We mosey away from him to give him the opportunity to get more steps in.  You’re welcome JB.  Mosey around the car-rider line and into the teacher’s parking lot for some warmorama.

Warm up

SSH x 25 IC

IST’s x 15 IC

Hillbillies x 15 IC

Mountain Climbers x 15 IC

Cotton Pickers x 11 IC

Mosey to the basketball courts for…………….

The Thang:

Shoots and Ladders

Before starting, proper credit was given to Spud at Concord who had the BB of the week last week.  I used the idea of making or missing a free throw to determine if we would run between the ladder exercises.  Make it, and you can do the ladder without moving between the exercises.  Miss it, and we have to do exercise 1 of the ladder at point A (sideline of the court) and shuffle (round 1) or run (round 2 and 3) to exercise 2 of the ladder at point B (opposite sideline).

Shot 1 taken by Life Alert.  He did hit rim, but it was WIDE RIGHT!  ????

Ladder 1:  Core Killers / Peter Parker Merkins (10/1) (Core killers 1 rep = left, right, both).  Since the FT was missed, pax had to defense shuffle from sideline to sideline completing 1 exercise at each sideline.

Shot 2 taken by MC.  No rim.  Air ball, air ball, air ball!  He asked for a mulligan and took another shot.  At least the 2nd time he hit the backboard.  Had trouble with vision he said.  I think the sun was in his eyes.

Ladder 2:  Balls-to-the-wall shoulder taps / smurf jacks (10/1) (shoulder taps 1 rep = left, right).  Since the FT was missed, pax had to run from sideline to sideline completing 1 exercise at each sideline.  (I first said to run backwards, but then thought better of it since at some point pax would be crossing paths back and forth, which wouldn’t be safe running backwards towards each other in a tight area.)

Shot 2 taken by Chachi.  He also got some rim, but didn’t make the shot.

Ladder 3:  Freddie Mercuries / Iron Mikes (10/1) (2 reps = 1 for both exercises)

Since the FT was missed, pax had to run from sideline to sideline completing 1 exercise at each sideline.

Okay, so before we started doing them Sugar said what I called “Iron Mikes” were called “Baryshnikovs” (I’m not sure if we was joking or comparing these to them).  But when Sugar speaks, I listen.  I just reviewed the Exicon again and now I’m confused.  I would have called them “jump lunges” or “scissor lunges” like what’s stated under Iron Mikes in the Exicon (in fact that’s how I found the term, by searching “jump lunges”).  But now that I see what a Baryshnikov is, I can see that too.  But what we did, there is no “right leg Baryshnikov” or “left leg Baryshnikov”.  So which is it?  Serious question.  I just want to know for next time I break them out.  Post your answers below or in Slack.

A few minutes to spare before Mary.  We always did suicides at the end our basketball practice in high school, so let’s do some suicides.  Line up on the baseline and GO!  Pax finish up with a strong suicide run.  YHC announces that he watched the movie “Miracle” last night.  Remember the famous scene when the hockey players lose a game because they’re not playing as a team?  Coach makes them stay on the ice after the game for some suicides.  They do one suicide after another.  Each time, coach just says “AGAIN!”.  I played coach and gave us just one “AGAIN!”  No time for more than that.  Sugar said he wouldn’t have ran as fast on the first one if he knew there was going to be another one.  That’s happened to me quite a bit in the gloom!

Mosey back to Mary for………….

Pretzel crunches, left 15 IC, right 15 IC

That’s it.  Recover, recover!

COT / Announcements

Prayers for MC’s wife and family as they deal with her Mom’s passing and travel to Tennessee for services.

JB has the Q tom’w and will be ending it a few minutes early to lead a #f3mentalbattle COT.  What is said in the COT, stays in the COT.

Moleskin:

Good push by the Pax this morning.  Let’s just hope Rolling Stone never has to play a game of basketball against the Concord Pax.  They were like 3/5 from the free throw line.  I appreciate you all coming out today to support me.  Keep grinding and keep your light shining in this world!

Always an honor,

Steel Cannon
