Softwood vs. Hardwood – Both Can Run, But Neither Can Catch a Football!

All Comanche Backblasts

July 3rd, 2018 By Buckwheat

10 Pax visited the hallowed grounds of Cox Mill Elementary School otherwise known as the Comanche AO.  Little did they know, they would be reliving their glory days of high school football.  As it turns out, one of our Pax isn’t even in high school yet, one just graduated, and most of the rest didn’t even play football.  The ones that did (YHC included), were pretty rusty.  Here’s how things went down.

Disclaimer given and we moseyed down the hill to our lower parking lot for warm-o-rama:

SSH X15IC (@Softwood got a little excited with his counting here – guess he as trying to draw the attention to himself now because he knew a football was going to be used as a prop and his #stonehands would be exposed at some point)….

Line up for an indian run aroud the lower trail and football field.  Pax in front laterals the football back and the person in the back throws it to the front of the line then sprints forward.  If the ball touches the ground at any point, all pax suffer a five burpee penalty.  Let’s just say, this was a loooooong slow run with the amount of drops and poor throws we had.  Softwood has straight up #stonehands as 10 & 2’s perfect through went right through is hands and bounced off his chest.  Hardwood followed in his father’s footsteps #babystonehands.  While those two were were probably the most noteable drops, most everyone caused us to do five burpees at some point.  I didn’t count the number of times the ball hit the ground, but it had to be around 10.

We stopped at the lower bleachers for 10 step ups each leg, then we partnered up for 10 partner leg shoulder presses (each) while sitting on the bleachers followed by 10 partner decline merkins (each) (one pax on hands and knees while the other does merkins with their feet on the other pax’s back).

Did somebody say football?  No football practice is complete without pushing the sled.  Well, we couldn’t budge the five man sled from the tall grass/weeds in order to do some drills with that, so we did the next best thing.  We pushed the single man sled the length of the football field, 20 yards at a time.  While one pax pushed the sled, the rest of us lunge walked.  Repeato back to the other end of the field.

We resumed our indian run lateral throw game up to the top set of bleachers, stopping for some burpees along the courtesy of YHC’s intentional drop…..  When we got to the bleachers we stopped for 10 step ups each leg, 10 partner leg shoulder presses while sitting on the bleachers (each) followed by 10 partner decline merkins and adding 15 squerkins (each) for good measure.  We moseyed back up to the lower lot for a little punt, pass, and kick.  One lucky Pax gets to punt, pass, or kick the ball while the rest of us sprint to get it.  The person who gets the ball, calls an exercise and rep count.  @Hardwood and @Softwood dominated the sprints, but mostly got dominated by the ball once they got there.  @Forgotten Jelly did a net punt of like four yards.  It’s a good thing someone stopped it from coming back further as all pax would’ve suffered a 10 burpee penalty for a negative net punt…  Our exercises included low flutter (Hardwood), monkey humpers (Softwood), CDD’s (Montezuma’s Revenge courtesy of Hardwood’s sprint).

After we finished our short punt, pass, and kick game we moseyed over to the grass a the edge of the bottom parking lot.  YHC broke out the whistle as no practice is complete without good old fashion up downs.  Get em choppin at the whistle and do 10 up downs (single count) whenver the whistle blows, choppin your feet in between.  Don’t worry, YHC didn’t clipboard and joined the pax ith the updowns.  NOTE:  It aint easy to do up downs with a whistle in your mouth!  #Winded.  Speaking of winded, @Softwood was crushing us today with some epic flatulance basically during every exercise.  What’d you eat yesterday, bro!?

Bear crawl up the short hill.  Walk to the sled in the middle of the field so YHC could catch his breath.  #Stillwinded.  Bear crawl to the gate for a short MARY.
