Bakers Dozen for Veterans Day Salute – Army PFT

All Rolling Stone Backblasts

November 9th, 2017 By Schnitzel

Temperatures in the mid 40s and drizzle made for a cool and wet PFT salute.  Anyone who’s done this in summer can appreciate the weather this morning.

Disclaimer

I’m not a professional, not even an amateur.  Worst injury ever from the PFT were cracked ribs, so watch your step, especially around the track entry at HRMS.

Warm up

Mosey to the PFT alcove.  Short catch up with Sugar along the way, but YHC runs out of breath quickly.

SSH x25

WM x10 (slow motion)

CP x10 (Clapping seemed in cadence for a change, for the first few anyway)

Merkins x10

Mtn Climbers x15

Plank Jacks x10

Thang

First I heard of doing the PFT for an F3 bootcamp was @Skipper a few years ago at the Precinct, so give credit where its due.Timing of the PFT fits nicely into the 45 minute slot.  YHC did not do a good job of explaining it all, but most were PFT veterans and others caught on quickly.  Start with Situps, AMRAP in 2 minutes,  Parter holds ankles, the view ain’t pretty from there but its only 2 minutes.  Flapjack.  Then everybody does AMRAP push-ups in 2 minutes.  Followed by 2 mile run, down to HRMS track, 4 laps around, then back to the dragon.

Form police could have written many citations this morning.  YHC failed to mention one important sit-up form requirement, hands should be locked behind head at all times.  Ignorance of the rule can be used as an excuse, this time.

Well done, gentlemen.  You can use this link as a starting point to see how you fare http://www.military.com/military-fitness/army-fitness-requirements/army-basic-training-pft.

Say thanks to a military veteran sometime over next few days.  They put themselves in harms way so we don’t have to.

Its been 5 months since my last RS workout and it was moving to be back out there with you all, even in limited capacity.  Being away from F3 has been difficult, as it was a regular part of my life for 3 years, more or less.  I reflect on it a lot, and have tried to incorporate the disciplines of F3 into my life beyond the 0530-0615 time frame.  The body may wear out before we like, but we’re still in the world of manly responsibilities of work, family, husband, father, brother etc.  Q’ing a workout isn’t unlike Q’ing a family outing, Q’ing a project at work, or Q’ing the 2.0s to Church on Sunday.  Signup to Q if you haven’t or if its been a while.

F3, the gift that keeps on giving.

Aye!
