Honoring Chris Kyle
All All MECA BackblastsDecember 2nd, 2016
8 pax came out for the inaugural RED Friday beatdown in the MECA region. YHC chose to honor former Navy Seal sniper Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in US History. He served from 1999-2009. His autobiography, American Sniper, was released in 2012 and a movie of the same name was released in 2014.
Kyle tragically lost his life on February 2, 2013. He and his friend, Chad Littlefield, took US Marine veteran, Eddie Ray Routh, to a local shooting range to help with his PTSD. While there, Routh shot and killed both Kyle and Littlefield. Kyle was buried on February 12, 2013. He is survived by his wife and two children. See here for more information on his life and death.
The beatdown was simple. We completed three rounds total of the following 4 exercises:
– 40 Cinder Block swings
– 40 jump ups
– 40 thrusters with cinder blocks
– 40 Derkins
The three rounds represents his wife and two children. The four exercises represent his four tours in Iraq. The total number of reps, 160, represent his number of confirmed kills.
Once done, we put back the picnic tables and cinder blocks and talked about Chris Kyle and the importance of the RED Friday beat downs. YHC shared that while I was never in the military, I grew up with the military in Germany as my father and stepfather were both in the army. My brother-in-law is now on active duty in the Air Force. I explained how important it is to me to honor our military. I also told the pax how I’ve taught my children to thank veterans and active duty service members when we see them.
RED Friday beat downs will be held each friday. For the month of December, we will be at Tradition. Sign up here to lead one of these beat downs. You will also find information on multiple options for Hero WODs on the SUG and the preblast announcing RED Friday.
Finally, tclaps to Major Pain for leading us in the BOM. Thank you for your service brother.
I look forward to seeing more pax out there each Friday honoring our heroes.
See you in the gloom!

Nice work today pax. I hope you found this Hero WOD challenging. Sound off below.
Awesome creative beatdown, brother! Let’s see, I’m off on Fridays, hmm…. I would love to jump into the mix and offer up a Q in honor of our great country’s warriors, but it’s about a 7-hour drive. I’ll put one on the calendar up here at the CHOP (the Milton Mustard Seed in Milton, DE). Great work, let’s keep these warriors close to our hearts and before others. Always!
Aye! You’re always welcome brother.
Tough beat down. Glad Major Pain and I were wrong about thinking it had 4 rounds!
Also it scares me how many of those WODs have pull ups and pull up variations in them….. There’s also a lot with wallballs. Kind of a shame we don’t have those….. Though it does make me laugh thinking of the ones I saw listing forward rolls, trying to imagine a bunch of F3 guys doing those around the parking lot.
Also, were we posting times since we checked them at the end…?
Oh yeah, the times. Feel free to post them below if you remember them. I know mine was around 28 minutes.
24:04 for mine.
Also, if you look on the excel file, you will see a column titled “F3 Modification.” That shows how some of the exercises can be modified or replaced based on the typical resources available at an AO. So wall balls are replaced in each one.
