An Even Paced Negative Split Cruise

All All MECA Backblasts

March 2nd, 2016 By The Nanny

A supersized pax of 19 showed up for their weekly installment of the Cruise.

The Thang:

  1. How to keep a group of 19 pax consisting of many different paces from getting scattered?  How about an out and back route where you go 24 minutes out before turning and heading straight back?
  2. HC Parkway to Christenbury to Millstream to Clarke Creek and back.
  3. Top end mileage was 6.6 miles for J-lo.

The Naked Moleskin:

  1. Leave it to @Primetime and @Frodo to find the loophole in my well thought out and purely logical instructions on how to conduct this morning’s exercise.  YHC explained that if everyone runs an even pace, then we should all make it back at the exact same moment.  I said to turn around at 24 minutes.  They said something about how turning around at 24 minutes would make this a 48 minute workout instead of the contracted 45 minute workout.  My answer?  Run negative splits to which they asked how is running negative splits an “even pace?”  It’s magic, man.  Magic.
  2. It was great to have @Fenway, @Mortimer, @Primetime, and @Winnebago with us this morning.  Always enjoy seeing some of our other running brothers.  Most of them are in taper mode for the Myrtle Beach marathon this weekend.
  3. @Winnebago may not fully grasp this concept of a “taper” as he took off like a shot for about 10 minutes once he heard that the front runners were @Stoli and @J-lo.  He tagged them and then resigned himself to taper speed for the remaining run.
  4. I had a number of “values” conversations this morning based on the solid stuff our brother @Alcatraz shared with us last night at #TheShield.  As I rattled off the levels of the intimacy pyramid @Chowder was impressed with my retention to which I let him know it was not my retention, but the quality of delivery from @Alcatraz.  Had some awesome conversation with @Wild Turkey about fathers and how they show their love, spouses, and love languages.  None of that would have happened w/o #TheShield last night….
  5. I saw some serious speed out of @Stoli, @J-lo, @Filibuster, @Ironhide and others this morning.  Maybe we will do a formal tempo run next week….

  1. Loved the big numbers this morning. We must have been quite the spectacle for all those early morning commuters heading to the office. Lots of blinky lights on the parkway. Thanks for being out there this morning – your unrelenting consistency in always showing up is what got me out of bed this morning. Thanks.

    1. My dog noticed. Great work, guys. 19 is quite impressive for the Cruise.
