8 men defied the NYE fartsack to join their brothers in the wintry…62 degree temp(?!) for the last 2015 workout/beatdown of 2015. YHC had lots of ideas in mind for how this could go and my thought process went a little something like this: Greatest hits workout? Nah, save that for later. People’s Q? Nah! Then YHC reflected on the workout that I attended at #Skywalker yesterday and thought we would do something a little similar. But first we had to warm up. So we counted down to the New Year F3 style!

The Thang:

The Pax picked 4 exercises and we created the first Davis Lake grinder on the fly! At the bottom of the hill we did:

20 mericans
20 air squats

At the top of the hill we did:

20 lunges
20 air presses

AMRAP til 6am

Then Pax led COP until 6:10am

Great to see Beetlejuice and his EH Triple Bogey out this morning. Remember, the workouts don’t get easier but you will get stronger!

As I rolled out of the fartsack this morning, I had a lot on my mind. I’m sure some of the pax noticed. I was thinking less about the workout and more about the purpose of F3. Besides getting in the best shape of our adult lives, we are here to encourage and promote male leadership within our communities in whatever form that may come. We practice by Q’ing. It could be the most basic/obvious form at a workout. Or it could be other things…leading a prayer, organizing a fantasy football league for the pax, promoting a healthy eating challenge. Whatever form it may come in, because of the 2nd F that we’ve established after posting for a while, it makes the environment safer than the outside world. You know that when a brother critiques you, it’s out of love and wanting you to succeed so that when you do turn that desire to make a difference outward (3rd F), you are ready. THIS is one of the many reasons why it is important to Q…it promotes male leadership within our group but more importantly, to the outside world.

I was also thinking about this past year and how when we first started back in May, I was worried that we would not make it past June. I was afraid of pushing the signupgenius past June. I knew I couldn’t Q every workout and the unknown about who would and would not post was there. But then on 5/30/15, 53 men crowded the clubhouse parking lot, our brothers from Highlands, Tradition, and Isotope signed up to Q and support us until we got going and 7 months later, we had 8 men post on NYE (albeit a seasonably warm NYE). The support that those men gave when they could’ve stayed comfortably at their own AOs moved me so much that the first thing I did when I got the chance was to sign up to Q at other AOs who needed the support we needed and received. Not at Tradition, Highlands, or Isotope…but places where they were experiencing what we did at first…Rolling Stone, The Valley, Skywalker, etc. Visiting other AOs can be a way to say thank you. It can be a way to show that we aren’t an island. We are ALL brothers. It can be a way to learn something new to bring back to your home AO. These are a few of the reasons why I challenge each of you to post to an AO other than ours next month. For those of you that are Q’ing regularly, if you are so inclined, sign up to Q at another AO.
