ThunderRoadTapering
All All MECA BackblastsNovember 9th, 2015
Three brave men gathered this morning in the cold rain to tackle the North Parking Deck at UNCC. After sitting in our cars until the last possible second, we all jumped out and the following took place:
The Thang:
- Partner up (or, form a group of three)
- Run to the deck
- Up StH 2x
- 1st time
- Staircase 1 – run, both feet hit every step
- Staircase 2 – run, both feet hit every step (start with other foot)
- Staircase 3&4 – run, every step
- Staircase 5 – run, every other step
- 2nd time
- Staircase 1 – bunny hops (every step)
- Staircase 2 – partner wheelbarrow
- Staircase 3 – bunny hops (every other step)
- Staircase 4 – partner wheelbarrow (flapjack)
- Staircase 5 – bunny hops (every 3rd step – if you can)
- We actually rotated through wheelbarrowing, holding someone’s feet and bunny hops. We each completed these 5 staircases, just not always in this order.
- 1st time
- Up the ramps
- Run the inclines backwards
- Flats are partner wheelbarrows (every 5 hand-steps, do a merkin) – audible called on round 3
- Run down Mineshaft
- Rinse and repeat until 6:05
Moleskin:
- There was an audible called on round 3 of the wheelbarrows. Running up the stairs and then having stomach above the your head in the wheelbarrow position led to several near merlot spills. So, to keep everyone from losing their breakfast, we audibled to lunges for the last round.
- My thought was that a team would split the length of the deck into halves during the wheelbarrows w/ merkins. Apparently, Minnow had other ideas as he went the full length on his own. #Strong
- It was good to see Chowder out at El Dorado again. Apparently he was there last week to, but he says there was no on else there to verify this.
- It was clear to see that everyone has their own rhythm and speed to run up StH. When you change that rhythm (hit every stair with both feet or hit every stair), those of us that are used to taking 2 stairs at a time trip over almost every stair. I think Minnow and I tripped at least once on every flight until we got used it.

Glad to be out this morning. It was a small group, but enjoyed the 2nd F with both of you. #ISI
@Frodo – good cross training taper workout … look forward to seeing you and the other Heartline runners this weekend
@Chowder…what happened to the forged hammer? I thought it was going to be a regular part of your workouts after the showmanship at the Beat Down Chow Down
Looks like El Dorado participation has fallen victim to another F3 WO…#charterschoolshuffle…hope the numbers come back up when the new school is in use
On second thought … perhaps bunny hopping up 3 steps at a time is not an ideal tapering exercise … legs feeling it this morning
