Veterans Day Eve, Army PFT Part 4

All All MECA Backblasts

November 10th, 2016 By Schnitzel

Was a little chilly this morning for the 4th installment of the Army PFT, to honor our veterans in all branches by getting a little taste of the necessary physical requirements. Cars rolling in at 05:30:10, but we must be off nonetheless.

Disclaimer

Warm a rama
Mosey to flag pole with some high knees, butt kickers, toy soldiers and lunges w a twist of lemon along the way.

PFT

Pair up and get instructions for the bent knee situp. Despite late arrival by Gump, this went relatively well. Happy Birthday USMC! Old timers have index cards showing past numbers, new PAX to the PFT start new cards. Note that situps require, knees bent at 90 degrees (or less), hands locked behind head, must go up to at least vertical and down to shoulder blades on the ground. Any rests must be at the vertical, not on the ground. AMRAP in 2 minutes.

Flapjack.

All do pushups together. Form requirements, keep body straight, descend to where upper arms parallel with ground. Any rests must be in the pike or downward dog position, not laying on the ground. Hands and feet can be adjusted but must remain on the ground, and knees cannot be used to support body.

Catch breath.

Two mile run. Down to HRMS track, 4 laps around and then back.

Missing exact time for gold medal winner, Harding, but was down in the low 14 mins. Well done! Let me know what it is if you recall and I’ll update it. Gump/Blindside, no record. Expect that from Gump, but Blindside, you recall your numbers?

and poke around and you can see what the requirements are, based on age. I’m off the charts (in age, that is).

Moleskin
Well done all the way around. Honorable mention to the Cruise regulars as the run times showed great improvement. That would be Sugar, over 1 minute off run time, Marie, over 1 minute off run time, and Sparknut, 40 secs off run time. That would be since Feb of 2016, last time we did the PFT. Always a pleasure to run around with you guys in the morning. Thanks to all the military vets with us this morning at RS. You are very much appreciated. Lets keep all our military in thoughts and prayers today and tomorrow especially.

Aye!

  1. Sorry for the format, but hopefully you can make sense out of it. @Milkbone killed the pushups!

  2. Great lead @schnitzel

  3. Always interesting to test yourself against past results…but as Schnitzel mentioned, some of us (including me) are too old for the military to even bother to measure anymore! Basically if we get called up for service it means the rest of you must already be dead.

Thanks to those that have served, are serving now, and those who will serve in the future. Much RESPECT.

    Until next time.

  4. Checked the charts, I would qualify for the Army as a 17 – 21 year old- if I am reading correctly. I think maybe they need to make the requirements a little harder…?

    Ha

    1. No they don’t.. USMC

  5. Nicely done as always Schnitzel. Thanks for taking the reigns on this one and making sure we test ourselves. Also thanks for the shout out. I may have been faster but really I was just wanting it to be OVER!!

  6. @Schnitzel I like what you’ve done with charting our improvements. I can’t wait for the next one to compare with. I see where my improvements are needed. Awsome.
    Good job men

    Next time

  7. Milkbone, your push up count needs work. Good grief!

    1. Man and I thought I could have been better. My sittups need help. Running too. I got a start point now though.

  8. Had a great time. @Sparknut many thanks for pushing me on the run. @Harding congrats on the win. I gotta start going to the Fishbone and improving my time. Need to wait until Schnitzel gets his achilles back in working order.
See some of you all at BB tomorrow.
    Until then…

  9. @Bagheera – Great job. You’re always a strong contender and I appreciate the push as well.

@Schnitzel – Thank you for taking the time to organize this for us. The APFT is a great measurement of our overall condition. Note: Harding’s time was 14:19

@Marie & Sugar – Great progress. That proves to all of the whipper-snappers that there is no excuse to be complacent. I can only hope to do what you guys do when I’m old. 😉 You’re a great example.

@Dadgum Milkbone – What about those push ups? How am I supposed to compete with that?

@Harding – I gotta give you respect my friend. Well done, but I am coming. #justalittlefriendlycompetition

Props to all the new guys! Keep up the good work Heat Stroke, First Date, and FNG Blind Side.
