Pre-blast – 2016/2017 Bull Dogs Matters Program – Need #HIM’s
All All MECA BackblastsOctober 21st, 2016
We kick off the 2016/17 Bull Dogs Matters program with a planning meeting at Bruegger’s at Park Road Shopping Center on Monday, 10/24 at 7:30am. All PAX are welcome to attend as we have done a lot of pre-work to improve the program and we have a lot of information to share. We then start working with the kids on Thursday, 10/27 at 5pm at AG Middle School.
We have been blessed to have Ben Page of Urban Eagles provide input as to challenges faced by young boys from Grier Heights and how we can more effectively serve God thru our efforts. In addition to the after school program each week at 5pm, we are expanding opportunities to get involved thru participation in weekend activities. The following are some highlights for this program.
Mission: To provide holistic (mind, body, spirit) support to middle school kids
Vision: Empower “coaches” to build relationships with youth through programs and activities designed to teach values and foster positive character development
Values: Purpose-Respect-Teamwork
Strategy: Utilize after school program and weekend enrichment activities designed to teach values and character development
Success: Students will learn to accept different forms of authority and be empowered to succeed in the future
Strategic Imperatives:
- Recruitment and training of “coaches”
- After school activity at least once a week during the school year
- Weekend enrichment activity at least 4 times a year
- Connect with partnering organizations
Goals:
- Form meaningful relationships with students
- Teach values of purpose, respect, and teamwork
- Create activities that foster positive character development
Principles
“Coaches” (ie volunteers)
- Our first ministry is to God
- We have no agenda – success is not pre-defined
- We will care about the youth without condition
- We will be authentic and consistent
Students:
- Involve the students in program structure of activities
- Involve students in setting standards
Relationships:
- Partner with other groups that already have authority (for example, Urban Eagles)
- Partner with F3 (www.F3nation.com) to recruit coaches
- Involve families of both the kids and the coaches
We are looking for more “coaches” to help us build relationships with more of the boys in this program. Please contact me at pchepul@gmail.com if you want to learn more or get started.
