You Can’t Park Here…It’s for the Hummingbirds?!
All All MECA BackblastsAugust 20th, 2016
Okay, today started off with a weird twist…
654am – pax begins to gather in parking lot
657am – Mecklenburg County park ranger rolls up and informs us that the parking lot and all fields in the entire park (mind you, this is one of the largest parks in the entire state) are reserved. We can’t park here, and we can’t be here. Why not might you ask? Well, today is the annual Hummingbird Festival of course! We inform the park ranger that we will be gone by 8am. He gives us a laser-focused death glare and drives away slowly
WARMUP
Slow mosey around the parking lot twice
SSH x 20
Windmill x 15
Imperial Squat Walker x 10
Hillbilly x 10
Merkin x 10
Mountain Climber x 10
We mosey on over to the basketball courts. In honor of the US Olympic Team’s (men and women) journey for gold, he decided to bust out some hoops. The QIC set up some cones and got his basketball from his car. Each member of the pax would take turns dribbling through the obstacle course up and down the court. To add some additional intrigue, you had to complete a layup at each end of the court. While one person ran the obstacle course, everyone else did air squats waiting for their turn.
Repeat the drill, but hold a plank while waiting
Mosey on over to the playground. We did a circuit workout with 4 stations.
Station #1 – 5 burpees
Station #2 – 10 pullups/chin-ups
Station #3 – 15 dips
Station #4 – 20 air squats
Keep rotating until the QIC got tired
Mosey to the softball diamonds
Jack Webb – 1 merkin, 2 air presses
2 merkins, 4 air presses
all the way up to 7 merkins, 14 air presses
and then all the way back down to 1 merkin, 2 air presses
Lt Dan drill to the fence – 1 air squat, 2 lunge
2 air squats, 4 lunges
keep going until you reach the fence
Reverse run sprint back to the infield
2 sets of Al Gore for 30 seconds each
Quadraphelia – backwards run up the hill…5 air squats…repeato until the QIC gets tired
Fearing that we would incur the wrath of the park rangers if we were late, we decided to cut the workout about 10 minutes short. Mosey back to the parking lot for Mary
WW2 situps x 10 OYO
LBC x 10
Squirm x 10
Alphabet – while laying on your back, you do a slight leg lift about 6 inches off the ground. You take your feet and spell out each letter of the alphabet (as if you had a paintbrush between your toes).
751am – as we’re preparing to head to our cars and leave, we can’t help but notice that the info about the Hummingbird Festival has NOT gotten around. There were quite a few people that were now arriving that looked like they had ZERO INTENTIONS of participating in the Hummingbird activities!
MOLESSKIN
1. Kudos to Cosmo for getting in a nice pre and post workout by riding his bike to the park. Beastmode!
2. Please don’t forget to that pre-orders are still going on until Aug 25 for Boondocks t-shirts. Go to http://f3.mudgear.com/products/f3-boondocks-pre-order to place your order!
3. Prayers for our F3 Brother Deuce as he’s traveling and couldn’t be with us.
4. Prayers for the folks in Louisiana dealing with the tragic flooding.
5. As always, it’s an honor and a pleasure to have the opportunity to lead a workout.
6. I usually carry a Weinke when I lead workouts…not because I need help running a workout, but because I can’t remember everything we did. I feel like I’m forgetting something. Charge it to my head and not my heart! Today’s workout was fun.
