Two Years of F3 For Me

All All MECA Backblasts

April 7th, 2016 By Buckwheat

9 Traditioners showed on this cool, wet morning to celebrate YHC’s two year anniversary. Wow, it’s amazing how time flies when you’re having fun! The past two years have been a phenomenal experience for me being part of F3. I owe so much to so many of my brothers for pushing me and keeping me motivated and engaged in F3. Most importantly, I want to thank Hammer for his relentless EH’ing over a period of three to four months which finally got me out to my first post at Highlands in April 2014. Much like today, the weather was nasty at my first beatdown and Freepass flat out smoked my AS$. At the time, I was 262 pounds of pure #sadclown. I hadn’t exercised in about six years and literally couldn’t run 50 feet without being straight gassed. Merkins? I could only do about 10 before complete muscle failure set in. My first beatdown was absolutely miserable. I will never forget that day. I thank God for having Gump and Hammer hanging back with me and getting me through that beatdown in typical F3 fashion #nomanleftbehind. Had they not done that, I would not have returned. I was so embarrassed/dejected after my first beatdown about how out of shape I was, I had two choices: 1) Run away, hide, and never come back or 2) Keep at it and get stronger. Thanks to all of my F3 brothers, the choice was simple #keeppounding. It’s been a gradual process for me, but I’m finally starting to see and feel some real progress not only with my fitness level, but in my life in general. I have made so many positive changes in my life since joining F3, most of which would not have been implemented without F3 and the support of my F3 brothers. While I have a LONG way to go to be the man I want to be, I’m moving steadily in that direction. I especially want to thank Dingo, Forgotten Jelly, and The Farm. Without your leadership and inspiration, I’d probably still be a miserable #sadclown. Thanks, brothers!

Enough about me (right, Dingo ;-)?). Here’s how things went down today.

Start TFM (The Farm Mosey) to daycare because Guinness is running late. We might need to rename the TFM to the GM because Farm has been on time lately and Guinness has taken over the habitual tardiness throne. 5 burpee penalty for the pax for Guinness’ tardiness. Resume mosey to daycare. Dingo waits back for Guinness and then Guinness shows up without Dingo. How did that happen? Dingo finally arrives, so now we can get started. Since they were now both late to warm-o-rama, the pax received another five burpee penalty. Guinness was assigned a few extras because he missed the first five we did.

The three things I hated most when I started F3 were burpees, running, and hills. My goal today was to do all three of those things, some typical exercises, and something new. I believe we accomplish this.

SSH X11IC
IST X11IC
Mountain Climbers X11IC
Low Slow Squats X11IC (Thanks Funky for pointing out that these were the fastest low slow squats you’ve ever seen). You were right, so I had to slow them down a bit. Just one question, how many low slow squats have you seen this past year ;-)?

Glad to see you back for your second post this week after your not so brief hibernation.

The Thang:

Mucho Chesto: Merkins X5IC, Wide Merkins X5IC Diamond Merkins X5IC, Stagger Right Merkin X5IC, Stagger Left Merkin X5IC. It calls for a rinse and repeat here, but that would’ve been one of those if you can’t do it, don’t Q it moments.

Line up for sprints the length of the parking lot. Sprint and do 22 Air Squats. Sprint back and do 22 Partner Plank Derkins. Sprint the length of the parking lot and do 22 lunges (11 each leg). Sprint back and do 22 partner plank incline merkins.

Mosey into Winchester subdivision. Everyone said hi to Dutch who was in the fartsack as we ran by his crib. The Pax immediately sensed where we might be going. To the roller coaster! Can’t fool you guys. Mumble chatter and seafood. Stop at the bottom of the roller coaster. Do 22 Bobby Hurley’s and sprint to the top of the hill. Do 22 chain breaker’s and run back down. Do 22 LBC’s and sprint back up the hill. Do 22 World War II sit ups. Jelly finish these rather quickly, so it was assumed he lubed the sit ups. Run down the hill and the packs will do 22 reps of whatever exercise the first person down decides. 22 merkins it is! The tax incurred a five burpee penalty for Jelly’s alleged lube.

Mosey up the other hill, back toward Tradition. Stop at the stop sign for monkey humpers until the six arrives. Continue mosey and stop at the stop sign at Prosperirty Church Road. Do 22 curb dips and continue mosey back to Tradition.

It’s not time for Mary yet, so let’s do a little parking lot shuffle. Run forward the length of two parking spots shuffle right to next parking spot line and run backwards the length of two parking spots. Repeato all the way to the island. Flapjack and return the other end of the parking lot shuffling left on the way back.

Still not time for Mary. Time to do that something new I promised. How about the Circle Burp? Um, what’s that you say? Circle it up and everyone chops her feet. Go around the circle with each pax member initiating a burpee for everyone. Keep chopping your feet and doing burpees until we make it all away around the circle. It’s a good thing we only had nine people here today!

MARY: Pretzel crunch, the W, low Dolly, and low flutter x15IC.

Wet Moleskin:

It was an honor to lead such a fine group of young men this morning. Thanks for celebrating with me, brothers. I truly appreciate you guys!

Grizzly, you were killing the sprints and the parking lot shuffle. Well done, brother.

Funky- It’s great to have you back in the mix brother. Way to push through it today. Keep pounding and you’ll get back to where you were year ago in no time.

Skipper- You’re a machine man. Crushed the roller coaster hill.

Jelly- Glad you’re able to run again, brother. Looks like you picked up right where you left off a few months ago.

Trail Mix- Can we rename you the silent assassin?

Guinness- We will gladly buy you a new alarm clock or some Prilosec to get your stomach straight ;-).

Dingo- I know you were hurting today. Couldn’t resist incorporating running and hills into my anniversary beatdown. Hang in there brother and get some rest. You’ve earned it as hard as you’ve been hitting it this year.

Blind Date- Nice burpee call at the end. The squeaky voice gets the mumble chatter…

  1. Sound off below!

  2. Funky Bunch!!!!!! Wow that is awesome!

  3. @Buckwheat…Two Years!!!!!!!!

  4. Great Beatdown Buckwheat! Been a pleasure getting to know you over the last 2 years and an honor to call you my friend. I’ve seen your growth in workouts, but more importantly in you personal life. I’m proud of you bro!! Keep pushing yourself!

  5. Dang Buckwheat, that was closer to a highlands speed workout than a tradition bootcamp! Good Stuff. T Claps on 2 yrs, and your strong growth.

@Dingo was hurting today?? Looked to me like he was pushing the pace pretty hard up those hills.

Good to be back at a beatdown with @Funky in attendance. All is right with the world again…

  6. I hate I missed this workout, @Buckwheat! Looks like it was a good one.

    1. Ah, but then you would’ve missed my fun at Rolling Stone TT! Still, I wish I had seen the 2-year Buckwheat anniversary sign-up sooner because I would’ve signed up at RS for a different day. I did at least have the forethought to cancel The Precinct workout and send everyone to Tradition. Okay, not really. That was Trail Mix’s idea. At any rate, I’m super proud of you Buckwheat! You mentioned a 262 starting weight in your BB. What’s it at now stud?

  7. Nice beatdown BW. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and am glad that we have become such good friends.

  8. Good beatdown Buckwheat. After a week at the beach, it felt good to be back out there with everyone…..and even Funky Bunch was in the house. Bonus.

    Congrats on the 2 years!!!

  9. Great Beatdown, @Buckwheat. The only problem was the warmorama moved. What’s up with that? There I was running to meet you pax around the church building. But lo and behold, you weren’t there. Fortunately, I was wearing my high velocity Nikes and I was able to catch up to you guys. I think the shear speed left @Dingo in the dust as he went back to six for me.

Congratulations on 2 Years, @Buckwheat – great commitment and consistency. Your involvement and contribution to F3Tradition has been great in many ways to me and all the pax. Thanks for what you do, and for what you have done.

BTW @Buckwheat, I am up at 4.45a so the alarm clock is not an issue. Prilosec might be the solution?

  10. T Claps Buckwheat on 2 years STRONG(er) Great Beatdown. Keep it up.

  11. Dingo- Thanks, bro. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for you, plain and simple. It has been a pleasure getting to know you as well these past two years.

Trail Mix- LOL. Not sure I’d classify this beatdown as a speed workout as there is nothing fast about me ;-). #slowandsteady

Aye on Dingo tearing up the hills today too!

TT: Would’ve been nice to have you there today. I was gonna give you shi% as I thought you fartsacked today, until I say Man Down’s comment.

MD: Thanks for the kind words. No worries on not being there, Qing another beatdown is a valid excuse in my book. Current weight is 232. Will be down to 220 by June!

    Jelly: Same here, bro.

BD: Glad you made it back out after vacay. I was out of town all last week myself. It’s always rough getting back to the grind after a few days off.

Guinness: Thank you sir. You too are a huge contributor to the good things happening at Tradition. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

  12. Congrats @Buckwheat on 2 years and thanks for your continued leadership in F3 and your always solid beat downs! #ahoy
