Jonas Stole my Sidewalk

All All MECA Backblasts

January 25th, 2016 By The Nanny

5 pax met at a modified 1PM start time for the Sunday #Distance run on the day after the world almost ended thanks to Jonas.

The Thang:

  1. After MUCH gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands, the route was selected and the icy ways were attempted.
  2. 201 Central Loop which delivered 5.5 mi base miles.  Number of other distances hit as well; 6.5, 8.1, and 12.

The Naked Moleskin:

  1. As YHC gingerly drove the apocalyptic frozen roads of Highland Creek I wondered to myself “where shalt we run?!”  The sidewalks were a mess and there was only the equivalent of 1.5 lanes of the normal 2 lanes open each direction on the parkway.
  2. While not excited to be running on the road, it was our only option and we justified it by saying “there aren’t many cars out right now anyway….”
  3. It ended up being fine.  While we annoyed many a driver, I think some happily gave us the lane as a virtual fist bump for doing something #CSAUP.  These were primarily men.  Men who don’t have words for #CSAUP but know it when they see it.  Who feel drawn to it not realizing it is in their god created nature to want it.  T-claps to the one dude in the jeep who went out of his way to make space and then gave us a friendly wave as he drove by.
  4. After J-lo and I separated from the pack and went on, we experienced the one lovely lady of the afternoon who refused to turn her wheel 2 inches to the left to give us the lane, and instead obstinately made her point that the road is for them and them alone and that we were putting them WAYYYYY out by asking them to move over.  I know where it happened b/c my pace on Strava for the next mile was faster due to high levels of pissed-off-idness.  It was icing on the cake that there were construction barriers up on the sidewalk next to us saying “sidewalk closed.”
  5. Strength in numbers boys.  Running in a group on perilous roads is simply a God given metaphor for life.  You need your brothers and they need you.

  1. This 1PM run @ 41 degrees (which felt much warmer), with no hat and no gloves, and a blue sky and sunshine was the PERFECT way to kick off the afternoon. Glad there are other idiots out there who will push me to do things I might not.
