The life of Brian (Hula’s 38th Birthday Life Story)

All All MECA Backblasts

January 21st, 2016 By Hula

10 faithful F3 brothers came out in the cold gloom and to their surprise would be learning about the life of Brian Ottinger, aka Hula (me). In honor of turning 38 this past Monday (January 18th) I wanted to share my life testimony through an interpretive workout. It was somewhat of an experiment that I hope was received well.

It went something like this:

Mosey to the Mick Jagger Memorial Amphitheater aka the Upper lot.

 WARMARAMA:

Having been born on January 18th, 1978 we did:

THE THANG:

Mosey to the Ronnie Wood Speedway

Having been born in Indianapolis, IN which is famous for the Indianapolis 500, we did the Bear crawl .500. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be, definitely an area for improvement.

Mosey over to “the wooden wall”, along the way did some toy soldiers in honor of a childhood filled with lots of playing with toys.

Once at the wall, realized that it was too frozen to stand on, opted to stay on the sidewalk and do some exercises honoring some of my favorite childhood movies

Mosey over to the Keith Richards Enclave

Explained to the Pax at around the age of 12 I started to live a very wayward life. I lived life on the edge and didn’t always make great decisions. I lived life balls to the wall.

The next chapter of my life was my 9 years in the Navy (CTM)

Skipped the 38 Burpees I had planned to represent my hardcore drinking days

Mosey back to the Mick Jagger Memorial Amphitheater

It was this phase of my life that was the hardest on me- I had some very dark days after I got out of the military and moved back home and took a job in corporate America

Feeling like the weight of the world was on my shoulders from day to day living, I found no rest in my work life, relationships, and constant partying.

Finally, the greatest thing to ever happen to me took place, I met Jesus Christ. He became Lord and Savior over my life and I finally found rest for my weary soul

Group did some air born mind benders, representing the rest we find in Jesus (Matthew 11:28)

Next phase of life was marriage and children

Group took turns doing 38 Rosalitas while partner did 38 Monkey humpers (that’s all I am gonna say about that)

Realized that the Christian life was too hard to try to tackle on my own. Got with a group of friends (the church) to come alongside and hold me accountable and help navigate through life’s trials and tribulations (Proverbs 27:17)

Group participated in the Iron Cross Shuffle aka the Indian Chainsaw to the end of the parking lot and back.

Ended with some group Mary:

Sugar- dying cockroach

Loco- Low flutter

Stretchy- Peak-a-boo

Marie- Mason Twisty

MOLESKIN:

In the end, I hope you guys learned a little bit more about me. My life can be summed up like this:

I was given a life, which I decided to ruin, but God sent Jesus to save and redeem me, and has now given us a community to help each other pursue His Glory for our Good.

Thank you brothers for the opportunity to serve alongside you. We all need accountability in order to grow and improve. I am certainly thankful for you guys for your constant encouragement and pushing me to be better, not just physically, but spiritually as well as many other aspects which stem from getting involved with this fine group of F3 brothers. Let us continue to encourage one another to grow as we seek to learn more about God and make His name known in our communities.

Prayer Requests:

Loco’s Dad has major back problems. Pray for Jimmy Buffet and M who will be having their second 2.0 any day now. Pray for the Harrell family who lost mom and wife, Melody this past Sunday, and for the person who died in a car accident right across the street a few days ago. We never know when our time will be up here on earth. Let us be great stewards of all that God has entrusted us with.

Love you bros.

  1. Well done Hula! Great to learn a bit about you and we had an interesting workout as well! BTW – 18 Burpees would have been acceptable. Maybe we can make those up next week sometime!

    1. Thanks @Sugar. You have always been one of the consistent brothers of the group. Thanks for your commitment to the AO. I am good with 18 Burpees, but 38 seemed cray cray!

  2. Thanks for the lead today, Hula, including the testimony. We do need to name something at the AO after Charlie Watts just to be consistent. The drummer never gets any respect…

    Until next time!

    1. Aint dat da truth!

  3. Great Q bro! Solid workout and overall leadership.
I guess we need more bear crawls and burpees next week!

  4. Happy Birthday Hula! (gosh, the one week Schnitzel’s away and I miss all the good stuff!) Sounded awesome. I’ll be there next Tuesday. (That is, if the Panthers still win)
